I knew I made the right decision to pass on The GT-R, and this really validates it

Porsche's DME also records and stores all of this data. I think most, if not all, manufacturers now employ this technology. It will also tell the tech. if there were any over revs (on a stick, of course) and what type they were. They are categorized by how much the engine revved past red line. I am talking about mechanical over revs caused by an improper downshift.
They sure do. At every service, they now download all the data and store it. I know on my GT3 they record the number of type I and II over revs...one is "ignitions at redline/rev limiter", the other is the bad one (ignitons PAST redline--ie: mechanical overrev). I never had any mechanical overrevs, but the car did have about 14,000 overrevs at redline! lol. Mind you this is IGNITIONS at redline, so at 8,400 rpm, they add up FAST. What can I say, you have to hold a gear at the track sometimes you know! lol

They never gave me any grief about it, but it is a bit unsettling to know they are documenting it...it gives you the impression they are ready to screw you at a moments notice.

14,000 holy crap!

Go to show how strong Porsche's engines are. I wonder how well the GTR's engine would hold up to 14,000 over revs, if it were possible.

Few if any are as strong as a GT3 engine, which was basically a de-tuned racing engine and costs a pack if needed to be replaced (30K).

A build up to a rev limiter will never cause an engine problem, it's the sudden over rev cause by going down a gear too soon or picking the wrong gear which causes the failures.

No wonder this car is so cheap. Its because they don't guarantee shit, so you have to pay for everything. NISSAN FTL. MT FTW.

Wow! While I never considered the GTR, this is just saddening.

This is predictable....look at how the cars are regulated in Japan....only allowing full performance in a racetrack.....

Its a bummer for the owner.....but Nissan is a mid level car company...they are NOT a luxury brand....so they really don't care if they piss off a few customers......since they don't have alot of brand loyalty anyway....
