Dyno Figures for E92 M3 and chipped 335i

At the BMW Club (Western Australia) dyno shoot out a Power Chip 335i with stock exhaust and 17,000 km produced 301 rwhp.

I was very nervous putting the car on after him. The first run produced 304 rwhp followed by 313 rwhp as per attached image. I have done just under 7000 km in 11 months.

I take it that 313 rwhp equals to 313 kw (419 hp) at the flywheel. If this is correct I am very happy with the car given the factory specs is only 309 kw (420 ps). The car has no modifications and has always run on BP 98 Ultimate. Unfortunately there were no other E92 M3s to compare against.

The really revealing feature on why the M3 outperforms the 335 is in the torque curve. M3 has an ultra flat torque curve that has both an advantage and disadvantage. The advantage is that it pulls constantly throughout the majority of the RPM range. The disadvantage is that since the torque does not ramp up all of a sudden like on a turbo engine, it doesn't give you that kick in the pants feeling that makes driving a turbo car seem faster than it really is.

I got 345 on a DynoJet. I guess these are rated lower.

The red line really isn't that bad of a line going from 14:1 to 13:1 with no major dips.

Dyno Dynamics is a heartbreaker. I had my IS350 on a dyno dynamics and it said 239 rwp and when I took it to a dynojet it said 259 hp. Almost 10% difference. 313 on the dyno dynamics is probably 340ish on dynojet which seems consistent with other M3s
