I re-weighed the OEM brakes

I was moving my OEM brakes when I was able to find my Pelouze postal scale. So I figured I what the heck, why not weigh them to verify the numbers that OC kid came up with. Well, I was in for a bit of a surprise. The numbers I came up with were quite a bit less than what was previously thought.

Front caliper previously thought to be 15.2 pounds was actually 14.5 pounds with pads and OEM rubber line attached.

Rear caliper previously measured at 12.1 pounds I measured it at 11 pounds with pads and OEM rubber line.

Front rotor previously measured at 26.6 pounds I measured at 22.7 pounds.

Rear rotor previously measured at 22.8 pounds I measured at 19.7 pounds.

So then the question I had was just how accurate is the little Pelouze scale. I grabbed a 25 pound dumbbell to find out. It weighed in at exactly 25 pounds.

So these numbers are pretty accurate and might make the stock brake guys happier. I believe OC kid used a bathroom scale to weigh the brakes before so that could be the reason for the difference.

So is there an advantage in weight over the Brembos?

Brembos would be lighter but I'm not sure how much. Someone should take an accurate measurement of the Brembo kit to be sure.

What makes you think that dumbbell indeed weighs 25lbs?

Sorry I couldn't resist, but you get my drift.

Also, global ban on OC Kid for using bathroom scale!?

Weight savings is just one advantage

Even if there was no weight advantage, you still gained superior heat dissipation and stopping power.

True when the brakes get hot, when they are cold the stopping power isnt all that great. Also I have noticed noise when the brakes are cold. Have you had these problems?

My testing was never purported to be anything more than what I said it was; unofficial. I did what I could with what I had at the time, my figures were averages taken from a plain-old bathroom scale. I think I even posted pictures with the brakes on the crappy scale...

lucid: You didn't have a problem with my less-than scientific scale back in May, or whenever it was, when I weighed the brakes...

oh well...

good-bye cruel world...

Oh, come on OC, I was pulling your leg man! I was being sarcastic.

Your numbers are not that off, and they served us well as a reasonable estimate.

Now, please don't blow your head off man.

How are those Brembo's working out for you btw?

Badfish, do you have accurate weight specs on the Brembo kit in your car? I want to update the numbers here with the numbers you posted on this thread:

http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...ngs+benchmarks

But I'll stick to OC's numbers since whatever error his scale might have had is at least applies to both the stock and the Brembo systems, so the weight difference should be relatively accurate. If I use your numbers, I can't use OC's numbers for the Brembos.

Thanks for taking the time weigh these things guys.

I have the Stoptech kit and they weighed the brakes on a scale much more accurate and expensive than the one I have. The figures were given in hundredths and even thousandths of a pound.

I don't have the numbers for the Brembo kit but I would be willing to be that they do.

Brembo performed extremely well under excessive amount of hard braking. I was very impressed with them. Take a picture of the Brembo BBK and a pic of stock brakes then compare with them side by side, you guys will know why.
