Extended maintenance

Did anyone purchase the extended maintenance plan when you got your car and to find out later that the dealership made a mistake on offering the plan to you thinking that it is available for the E9x M3?

Apparently, the E9x M3s does not qualify for the extended maintenance plan. But the extended warranty, yes.

It is because BMW has no confidence in the reliability of this car beyond 50K/4yrs. That's precisely why you get rid of it and pick up something else in 4 years time.

Meanwhile drive it like you stole it for 4 straight years!

Same happened to me. They sent me a refund check a couple of weeks after I took delivery. I was counting on the extended maintenance plan since I put so many miles on my cars every year. I'll run through the standard 4x50 plan in two years flat.

I think the extended warranty speaks more of the projected reliability than extended maintenance. Maintenance is just oil and filter changes. Warranty covers mechanical repairs. Which would you rather have?

Maybe the fluids/filters used in the M3 are significantly different or more costly than the others? Doesn't sound feasible, but.....
Of course on the extended warranty the dealer is essentially just a broker for a 3rd party insurer that underwrites the warranty and reimburses the dealer for any repairs. Where with the ext maint, BMW is footing the bill

it's probably a marketing thing. no one buy an M car for any other reason that just you want to have one. so, why bother give you something for free if you are willing to pay for it any way. Or, they think if we can afford the M, we can afford the oil and filters.

I thought the BMW extended coverage includes EVERYTHING except for tires. That includes brakes and anything that might go wrong with the car. Now they offer the extension in the 3er, why not the M3?

Correct me if I am wrong but isn't the 3rd party "extended warranty" a lot weaker than the BMW offered package? Only major drivetrain components covered ...

I was led to believe from various posts on this forum that BMWNA administers the BMW extended warranty, but it is underwritten for BMW by a 3rd party insurer. We as owners only deal with the dealer, but in the back room at BMWNA, they pay a 3rd party insurer, who also processes their claims (probably in some aggregate way). I could be wrong, but that is what I was led to believe

BTW, I've heard that the AAA Diamond ext warr coverage is more economical and almost as good as BMW's ext warr

i was worried too about this on my 335i which I ran like a bat out of hell.....
ended up trading in for the M at 35k so it doesn't matter now...
for what its worth, never had an issue and that was done in 1 year (the 35k).. lol

hope i have the same luck with this m.. i'd like to keep it for a while, even past the 50k

You know, I just had my first service last Saturday, and at the end of the paperwork they gave me, I think it said they are offering maintenance now. Don't remember the terms. Let me go check. If so, I'm guessing its because of the economy.
