Bluetooth Phone Transition

I read the previous threads on this subject, but no real solution was discussed.

When talking on my matched phone, the connection is interrupted when I turn on or off the ignition. In my Audi, the call would automatically transfer to the audio system without hesitation. With the M3 there is about 30 seconds when I can not hear anything on the handset or the audio. After 30 seconds the connection is restored.

The dealer has no clue.

Chris, what phone are you using? I've had no issues like this with my Bluetooth connection. In fact I've had just the opposite when I stop the car and get out of the vehicle while continuing a phone conversation, I seemingly can not get the phone connection to "break" so that I can continue to talk normally on the handset. Eventually when I'm about 15 feet away from the car it finally breaks.

30 Seconds? That's all? My M3 is a little longer then that and the X5 is even worse. I always have to tell the person to hang on, start my car then on my hand held switch to handset. Then after a minute or so when I see the antenna on the nav screen then I can switch back.

It's not the hand held I don't think because the hand held connects right away.

In my e46, my bluetooth connection is never interrupted by shutting off the car. I have the same experience as BigGbigO. I'm using Palm Treo P on the first generation bluetooth module and 2007 communications firmware in the car.

I normally turn off the handsfree function on the phone as I get out of the car. If I put on my earphone, I have to wait 5 to 10 seconds for it to pair after leaving the car.

i just installed the cradle (for my 2g iphone) and noticed there is a bluetooth audio transition button on the cradle to switch audio between handset and bmw bluetooth. I've not had a chance to use it yet though, and my iphone seems to switch automatically anyway. I've also not noticed the delay you mention. Perhaps it is there though ... Mmm.

Getting out of the car is not my problem.. Its getting into my car while I am on the phone. It will not connect right away in either the X5 or M3. My buddies 530 is the same however my 2006 550I I had picked up the blue tooth right away. Also The 550 I drive never lagged. Both with the M3 and X5 I am unable to change the volume or channels after the car has ran for about 10 seconds. There is a period right when I start the car I can turn down the volume but then it locks up for about 20 seconds.

Yes, i've certainly noticed the unresponsiveness you mention of i-drive for the first 10-20 seconds on startup.

Cause Revealed

Turns out the bluetooth system automatically syncs every time it couples. The length of the delay is based on the amount of data being synced. In my case, the onboard must review around 2,000 phone numbers. Yes, I have that many close, personal friends. Not. So anyway, if you have little to no delay in your bluetooth transition, you may want to reflect on your monastic life.

Thanks for the comments.
