///MFest Incident and pictures

///M Fest was very good this year and had many very awesome M cars at it. A special thanks to Laidback and other M Fest organizers. However, there was a bad part of the trip for us. I have to get my photos edited on my other computer to be able to post them on this website, so I am sorry if this is a teaser thread in advance... Our Jerez Black M3 was prepped on Thursday before we left by 503 Motoring (Very good company, will post thread on them soon) We had the bottom of the exhaust painted so it doesn't show beneath the car, we had H&R Sport springs installed (awesome mod), we had the 3M applied, the tint redone from a previous installation, we had awesome 503 Decals and vinyls installed on the car for the show (you have to see the pictures to understand), and we had our ACSchnitzer Type III wheels put on the car, along with the car being detailed (wax, clay bar, etc.). So, we borrowed the radar detector and hit the road to Vegas. We were in Lodi, CA when we met up with a beautiful Laguna Seca HPF, wide body E46 M3 and another HPF M3. (The Laguna Seca M3 was an award winner in the show and shine). This was completely coincidental but we were excited to see them. We changed into the left lane in front of the Laguna M3 that was in the right lane and behind the Silver other HPF in the right lane. That's when we suddenly saw a semi truck tire on it's side in the middle of the road (Mind you, this is 2:30 AM and there is a car alongside us and off-road on the otherside.) We then ran into the tire, it was unavoidable. The car must have jumped, 6-12 inches on the right side after running over the tire. We immediatley pulled off at the next exit, but the M3, as many should know, cannot be turned off without being stopped. So a low oil pressure came on and we knew it was bad. We then realized that we had sprayed I-5 in several liters of oil. I then turned off the car and heard a clackity-clack noise and knew that everything was not well. We looked at the exterior and the entire right side was drenched in oil! The oil cooler was destroyed, front bumper is a gonner and the engine may be completely destroyed. The full extent of the damage is unknown, but it may just be totaled. We later talked to the owners of the cars next to ours when it happened, they said that they saw pieces flying and sparks when it happened, and the widebody Laguna was drenched in oil . We called BMW assist and had them tow the car to Elk Grove BMW on a flat bed. The car is in their parking lot covered in 30 weight oil right now, the car dripped oil all over their lot . We will have it shipped back to our dealer in Portland. And guess what, we got to drive to M Fest in a V6 Hyundai Sonata, instead of the showcar . (Kind of looks like space grey though ). It was very sad. I will have the pictures posted up as soon as I can.

Oh, and the car only has 1998 miles on it and 1200 when we first left from Portland.

Wow. That is a horrible story. So sorry! And such bad timing with it happening just as all three of you were essentially side by side. At least the good thing is the tire did not cause you to barrel into the other 2 M3s and then have 3 destroyed M3s and a big insurance mess to deal with.

Happy that nobody was injured because of this, but very sorry about what happened to the car. Best of luck to you in getting everything addressed with the car.

Thanks, you are very correct on the part about no one getting hurt. If we would've swerved, we could of flipped and destroyed the other M3s too.

Ouch. Glad you didn't crash. I hope that it is totalled so that you can move on without too much of a hassle (a new engine and who knows what else)...

Sorry to hear the news about the accident but it's good that no one was hurt. Cars are always replacable, people are not. Hopefully you get a new car from the issurance co. and not just a repair. By the way was it a whole tire or just portions of a tire that you hit? The reason I ask is if you or the polive can find out where the tire came from, their issurance should pay.

Yeah, make 'em pay. And don't accept repairs; only a full replacement will do. Unfortunately, it's probably going to be hard to find out who's tire it was.

Ouch! WTF is a big rig tire doing in the middle of the road?!?!

How much do you expect the repairs to cost?

Either way, your life is worth more than a car. Glad to hear you and the other guys are ok.

Sorry to hear about this....

Why didn't you guys just pull over and shut down instead of going to the next exit?

At least this will be covered by insurance.

Yeah especially at night,by the time the tire got within the headlight range, there were pry not much he could've done.

I'm sure they'll fix it as good as new and Glad to hear you're ok.

It was only a partial tire and we got towed and weren't able to see anything later on when driving past in the tow truck.

We didn't have the low oil pressure light come on until maybe 30 seconds after and by that time we were already exciting. We only drove for a minute or less after it happened.

Thanks, not sure of the extent of it yet, possibly totaled. Anyways, big rig tires FTL.
