Is it ok to go over 1200 miles before the break in service? I'm at 1250 and will probably hit 1400 before I get time to take it in.

Shouldn't be a problem... a few hundred over/under will not be an issue. I brought my M3 with only 1000 miles.

With my M5, I went on a road trip and by the time I got back and was able to bring it for its 1200 mile service, there was over 2500 on the clock and the dealer said it was fine.

I seem to recall the E46 M3 owners that bought theirs used being pretty pissy if the 1,200 mile service wasn't done at 1,200 miles or before when looking at potential used cars. If you are one of those guys that loses sleep at night over resale value you might want to take it in as close to 1,200 miles as you can.

Took mine in with close to 1400 on the odo (think it was 1390-something). It was fine.

Talk to your service department. When I hit 1150, I was told they wouldn't be able to take the car in for over 2 weeks. I explained that the car would be a couple hundred beyond te 1200-mile point and they said no problem (I got that in writing).
