Not being a lib, I can't claim to really understand them, but aren't there some Hillary supporters who feel they were shot down just when they were set to have their first woman president? Palin might be able to reignite their hope. She won the Governorship on her own merit. Hillary won her Senatorship on her husband's merit. Sounds like Ms. Palin might serve as a good example of women's progress more than Clinton.

she won the governorship on the fact that her opponent was about to be indicted, etc.

she's a jimmy carter...

progress? gov <2 years of a state with 1/2 mil people...
before that mayor of a town of 9000
I lived in AK, it's a crazy place, run by rednecks and hippies...
this is really a joke...I'm glad mccain did it...
I hope they impeach her right before the election

they will not change parties...most of clintons supporters were liberal, pro-choice, anti-war, anti-gun...this will not help mccain, it will hurt him, and therefor help obama

talk about a celebrity stunt

McCain has this in the BAG now. Bye, bye Obama. The 18 million voters for Clinton now have somewhere to go.

Obama picked up 8 points over night...and the full impact is not known...
I'm betting mccains pick actually gives obama another 5 point bump!

Obama gained 4 percentage points since the day before the Democrat convention taking all four of them from McCain. How does this compare to past Democrat conventions? Neither gained from uncommitted voters? Is that right? Maybe some of the uncommitteds are already committed to third partys?

it's only been 1 day...give it a week...
I think they have begun to heal the clinton rift...

in some repub party polls for a vp choice she got only ~10-20% of the vote...

he may have hurt himself badly...this almost seems surreal, like a joke...

the novelty will waer off in a couple of days...we have a 15 minute attention span...

Could be. But what I have heard so far of her stand on certain issues, she is likeable.

If you are going to have somebody running for office with limited experience, maybe the theory goes that it's better for it to be the running mate rather than Presidential candidate (especially when it will draw the inevitable contrast of experience between the two top spots).

In any case, I like how she looks. That's not politics as usual.

pro-gun
anti-gay
anti-choice

she's not gonna do well with clintons block

it is exactly politics as usual, all fluff, no substance

this was a desperate ploy to get women voters...but yet they think women will sell out their ideals for gender alone...it's sexist and demeaning to women in general...acting as if they are stupid sheeple

if he really wanted to do this right; black, handicapped woman who is a veteran and who was orphaned at birth and left the convent to run

you gotta wonder what the hell mccain was thinking? or maybe he wasn't...
it is entertaining though

Personally...I just wanted to say...even after 5 kids, gawd I would tap that in a heartbeat. I can't resist the cute brunette + glasses look

Politically, this is someone who admitted to being just a "hockey mom". Apparently running Alaska is not that hard of a thing to do

I never understood how that made him qualified, or even attested to his character...there were many...

in fact some say he 'rolled over'...nicknamed songbird...and he was chubby when released...hmmmmm

5 years in a POW camp might make you as crazy as a shytehouse rat...
they say he is prone to fits of rage and anger...
are we sure we want his finger on the button?
he might nuke vietnam

you're probably right...the country is not run by the president...
it's a big system, out of control...

we'll still have a democratic house and senate...possibly a 2/3's majority in the senate if everything falls their way...

btw: ted stevens, (r) AK, longest serving repub, has been indicted, and will probably be convicted since the guy who paid him has turned states witness...

On July 29, 2008 Stevens was indicted by a federal grand jury on seven counts of failing to report gifts received from VECO Corporation and its CEO Bill Allen on his Senate financial disclosure forms. Stevens is specifically charged with violating provisions of the Ethics in Government Act.

However, what leadership skills have any of the candidates demonstrated? Obama has little to no leadership experience. A Senate seat only barely kept warm does not embolden leadership experience.

she won because her opponent was being charged with crimes...
tony knowles...she was the only choice who didn't have a chance of going to jail...

this calls into question mccains judgement...
he did this solely for a percieved political advantage...
with no concern for the Country...there is a very good chance he'll croak within 4 years, and he's left her to run the Country?
self serving meglomaniac with delusions of grandeur and immortality...

he's very strong...a poor black kid who put himself thru Harvard...
then took a low paying job instead of a high profile, high $$$ one...
he could have gone anywhere, he chose politics
as opposed to the son of an admiral or the princess, beauty queen who did TV sports...
these 2 have no other skills...unless smiling and crashing planes is a 'skill'

I was referring to her approval ratings and surprised the hippies like her.

Please tell me that your technical writings, referring to you being a PE, do not follow the same structure. I have a hard time reading the multiline responses.

Simply not true. Obama has shown leadership all through his political career and as far back as his days at Harvard as president of the Harvard Law Review.
