Arrow Would you buy an E92 M3 CSL at this point in your life?

Let's do a mini CSL survey (now that the E92 M3 CSL project is suspended).

If the E92 CSL were to be released, say in 2010, would you buy one at this point in your life? And please be realistic, click yes only if you would actually buy the car and afford it.

Specifications: (mostly based on E46 CSL and various magazine speculations)
E92 M3 CSL

460 bhp
3400 lb - 300 lb savings (E46 CSL: ~250 lb savings)
M-DCT CSL gearbox w/ M-Track Mode
Ceramic brake as option
CFRP intake/bumper covers/trunk/interior trim
Plastic rear glass
Upgraded anti-roll bars, stiffer spring rates
BBS wheels/Cup tyres
Racing bucket seats

MSRP: 25-30% more expensive than regular M3

This is an exercise designed to see if even BMW enthusiasts would buy a CSL, and perhaps shine some light on BMW's decision.

Cast your realistic vote! And explain your decision below!

I'd get it in a heart beat. 20-30% is nothing. If they make it limited enough, I'd blow double the money. They hold their values quite well.

ABSOLUTELY! I won't go more than 85-90k for a souped up 3 series though, any higher than that and I would be forced to go for a GT3.

Would you buy an E92 M3 CSL?

NO and niether will anyone else....
Quote:
Bavarian Motor Works has cancelled plans to produce the lighter, sharper and faster version of the E92 M3. Originally scheduled to arrive on the market by the summer of 2009, BMW will no longer be producing an E92 M3 CSL.

Ludwig Willisch, boss of BMWs M division, told CAR Magazine that the automaker canned the project since it doesnt make business sense. Based on current numbers, there is most likely insufficient demand for the M3 CSL, said Willisch.

BMW will instead focus its resources on the M-versions of the X5 and X6.

The E93 BMW M3 CSL was supposed to be powered by the same 4.0L V8 engine producing an extra 50 horsepower for a total of 470. To save weight, BMW was going to drop the radio, navigation and air-conditioning. A bunch of carbon fiber was to be added to the front apron, hood, roof, side panels and rear bumper.

It was going to make its debut at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show as a 2010 model

You are not going to get a balance opinion from a group of BMW car nuts that happen to post on a web site.

If BMW make another CSL then they will have to keep the price nearer the normal car but still provide a significant improvement in performance.

No I understand. I just want to see if even the BMW car nuts would buy it. And it shine some light on BMW's decision.

Just sharing the info for those that might not know the CSL is deaded. Besides, you want us to take this so seriously by being truly "realistic" with something that is NOT a reality...

No biggy, back OT.... I think that the previous CSL had marginal power increase considering the cost. The new "would" have had more of a significant power to weight increase. For me though it is just to much sacrifice in luxury... No AC = No Thanks

Yes.

If I had the money, I would want the CSL over anything else as I'm a BMW fan first and foremost and no matter how great the GTR or 911 are, they aren't a BMW, they don't have that typical BMW balance, that style that feeling of being part of the legend that is M3. Outright performance isn't everything and an M-car has plenty of appeal to stand alongside those cars of greater stature.

I guess I would have to consider it due to the fact that the only competition would be the GT3 and the BMW has the engine at the correct end...

There are also cheaper options for serious track work for those that want it.

FWIW none of the poll options fit my intent. I'd rather uprate the fully optioned e92 M3 I have and build something more track-focused on a different platform (e30 probably, e46 maybe, TT possibly). If I'm removing options on that car, I'd like to start with something a lot lighter; I'd be open to carrying the S65 over though, if I could figure out how to do the conversion.
