Anyone scratched the front bottom of their M?
Hi all, I just let my wife drove the car for the first time.
To make a long story short, she wasn't used to the throttle response of the DCT in D mode and pull into a driveway (about 30 degree slope) too quick. The front bottom of the car hit immediately and now there are some scratches under the front bumper. Anyone had a similar experience? I wonder if it is a common thing with the e92 M3. I will make sure that I leave the EDC in its hardest setting in the future when doing something similar. For now, the only thing I can do is to drown my sorrow with lots of hard liquor. |

Thanks Laszlo. Since you live in San Fran, I am sure you run into that all the time. The front bottom is actually the same color as the car. Since I have a Jerez Black car, it left some white scratches there. But you are right, others cannot see it. I am just hurting inside
. It is just scary that the whole front is just one big piece from top to bottom. You can potentially mess up the whole front if you hit it hard enough. But then, I live in NYC, it is just impossible to keep a car in pristine condition anyway ![]() |

Sorry, I am just too upset to take pictures of it. I will just try to convince myself that it never happen. I just read something in the menu that if the bottom of your car can potentially hit the ground, use the hardest setting in EDC. I should have RTFM.

Yup, many of us have done this with our e92 including me. LOw profile, high risk! It also doesn't help to be driving in "the City." Having an M3 in NYC is like having a Beast in a Cage. Long island is the way to go. That's why im taking mine to The Hamptons LDW. I know the situation BURN you inside but it's really not a big deal. My experience was with a parking curb AT BMW for my 1,200 mile oil change. Drifted a little too far up and i hear KcKKKcKKKcKaH!!!! I was a reck for about 48 hrs. Then my friend reassured me,"hey pal, it's the BOTTEM of the car, who cares!" I forgot about it and then focused my full concentration on next rock chip in the grill that appeared that week. Sometimes i wish i leased.

yup... once for me so far. good thing is that the black underbody scratched first instead of the actual bumper, so not too much damage. I guess they must have designed those black blocks to save the bumper!

I know all too well about this scraping problem. On my E46 M3 I was putting air in the tires and didn't realize (being an idiot) that the handbrake was not fully engaged. The car slid slowly into a curb and the whole bottom was scratched. Of course you couldn't see it unless you looked, but it bothered the hell out of me. On my new white E92 I found that when I back out of my garage too fast the carpet covered black things in the front scrape. One thing that helps is putting the EDC on sport and approaching very slowly when exiting things. The car is less likely to scrape.

I think it was stated in the manual (or somewhere) to change your EDC to sport's mode to avoid scrapping your front end when leaving/entering driveways. I always (if I don't forget it, for now) do it and I just have to reiterate it to my wife to do the same.

Skywalka, what a horrible catastrophe,
You should permanently garage the car. Otherwise you'll run the risk of another horrible catastrophe like a rock chip to the paint, or uneven wear on the tires. |

I let my wife drive mine all the time. She's a good driver, and she could kick your ass and then go file her nails.
