///M cars a waste in North America?

Just like your opinions on this issue. I drove my M6 to work today, nice cool air, lots of power.

In Ontario (name your state / province), you get charged with "Street Racing" if you go 50 km/h+ over the speed limit and your car get confiscated for 7 days at the side of the road and a maximum fine of $10,000.

I spoke to a senior police official at a social event a few weeks ago and the new rule in Ontario has effectively created a new cruising speed of 140-145 km/h on the highways (limit is 100 km / h).

Back to this morning, I am cruising at 145 km/h and minivans with neutered males are passing at 160 km/h. In the good old days, that wouldn't happen....now with the new rules, I rare go above 150 km /h.

What a waste of a good car..... Are our cars wasted on today's highways? I track the M6 2-3 times a year, not enough.

Should I get a Miata or a Cayman??

Sucks to fear the law.

Sell the M6 and buy a Prius, put tints, drop the suspension, and put HREs on it. Done.

You need to do more track days. Having an ///M car is not a waste, if you use it for the purpose for which it was born.

Be good,

Of course, they're a waste. But you probably bought it for other reasons, too.

You can't really drive any high performance car on public streets. It's not only not safe, but it just gets you all frustrated and tense. No point, really, when you think about it logically. But it's your emotional side that makes you think illogically

Buy a Cayman and track it. More fun on the track than the M6, imho.

Buy a Plain Jane 7er or Merc or something else for putzing around going to work, traveling, doing errands, etc..

Best of both worlds.....

I was keeping up with traffic!! Other than Germany, these cars don't have a chance to explore 4th gear + at redline on public roads.

Thanks. I do try but I just don't have the time these days!

Not sure what you are trying to say, it seems like you guys just got more freedom to travel faster on the highway......so you get to drive faster in your M.

My first car was a Pontiac Fiero at the ripe age of 16..... The car barely had enough power to get to 100 mph and it would be shaking, wandering all over the road.

My old M3s and now the M6, no vibrations, power on tap, no wind noise just the deliberate tone of the aftermarket exhaust that I have..... Oil temps are nice and cool.... Amazing machine....

These cars really do shine on the north side of 150 mph.....I won't see that here.....certainly nothing public.

I completely agree! I've driven both an M6 and an Cayman S at several local track events and I've lapped quicker on the Cayman S with a 6MT than in the M6 with SMG, and I'm not exactly the greatest driver or all that adept at hell-toe shifting in the Porsche. The Cayman S is one of the most balanced cars around the track, and extremely fun and easy to drive to boot. It's even more balanced than its ass-engined bigger brothers, including the GT3. The M6 just felt heavy, and more or less felt like my M5 lumbering through the slower corners. Like the M5, the M6 was built for autobahn triple digit cruising.

+1 on 1984, you HAVE to drive 100mph to keep up with traffic? People need to slow down and enjoy their lives.

Tbone, you have to make the best of it. WHen I used to have my E36 M3, I used to take my car to where there are plenty of canyon roads, and no one around. Just have some tearing-shiat fun.

Well.... I agree with your thoughts, although the reason we buy all this HP is because "it's nice to know it's there", right ?

I can empathize though, because the VERY FIRST time I floored my C63 off the line, using the manual/paddles, I got PULLED OVER. Yep, just seconds into my first "holy crap this is quick" experience, there were flashing lights in my rear view mirror. For no freaking reason... I did not exceed the legal limit, I braked hard once I reached it. Since I was first in line at the stoplight (the only chance I ever get to floor it off the line) the cop said "were you racing someone?"

We don't need and can rarely use this much HP on the street or the freeway, but... it's nice to know it's there and be "the big dog" isn't it?
