Safety issue?
So I noticed a chunk missing out of the sidewall of my tire today. It was a fairly decent size piece of rubber, but doesn't seem to be too deep. I don't know if these pics really show it too well. But does anybody think this is a safety issue? Last thing I want is a blow out during a high speed corner. Seems to me the rubber is pretty thick at this part of the tire so it shouldn't be an issue. Let me know what you think?

I do not think that I would feel too comfortable performing high speed cornering with a tire like that. It may be perfectly okay, but it would always be on my mind.
Did you happen to get the tire/wheel insurance when you purchased the car? Perhaps it would cover damage like this.

That is really weird. Must have been a sharp rock or something. I'd get a professional opinion...

Yea, it is weird I have no idea how it happened. Walked up to my car this morning and that piece was hanging off. Asked someone at my local tire shop but I'm not sure how professional their opinion was even though they think it's not a problem. I do have the tire insurance so I might change it anyway.

Spewing chunks
I'd get a new tire, then a new camera (or learn to use the one you have). That's too big a chunk to live without, IMO. What's wierd is there is no damage to the rim. You have any enemies that would want to just slice a chunk out of your tire with a knife? That's almost what it looks like.

yea, close ups from an iPhone suck. there's a little spot on the rim too, but not noticeable unless pointed out. I think I'll just put a claim in since I have the tire insurance and get a new one. Rather be safe than sorry.

That is ugly. I would replace that tire. At low speeds, for short term, it may hold up, but I would be very nervous about highway travel.
