I think in threads like this, if you are posting results that differ greatly from the majority you should also post up your mileage.

It could easly be that your clunk just isn't fully developed yet. Give it alittle time.

I'm a little over 5,000 miles so well past break-in and the car is just stunning. The engine sings and has definitely got better...

Should I be hearing a clunk then?

GOd, stories like this make me thank my lucky stars I got a great dealer that would never take "its normal" from BMW if there mechanics applied common sense and KNEW something was off. It all comes down to your dealer's stomach for fights with BMW.

I read also about this "mechanical" clunk noise in the manual about the MT6 and also about how the engine may sound a bit mechanical on first cold start up. My tranny at 3100miles feels fine, I do hear a bit of a clunky noise between 1st & 2nd, at slow normal city driving speeds but nothing alarming to me. I've drivin manuals all my life so far and this I may say is the only new car with a bit of a clunky sound and could pass as if there is something wrong but there isn't so I accept it. Now if it gets real bad then it might warrent investigating. Best bet is if possible, drive another E92 M3 MT6 at another dealer and see if it's the same. Good luck!

The only time I have driven an M3 was my test drive in a 6MT. While I was driving with the CA, I kept hearing this clunking sound with each sift and under acceleration. The car had 3200 miles on it. Every time it happened I looked at him and asked if it was normal. He said that it was the heavy duty tranny that comes in M3s and it is normal to hear and feel the tranny. I was very freaked out by the sound.

I must say, I am glad I have DCT on the way.

Do you hear the clunk when you let go the pedal too???? I have the same problem.. When i got it just when i was letting go of the clutch or 1 st and 2nd.. Now all gear's and when im on third gear and let go of the gas i hear the clunk.. It got worst.. If it ok good if not the forum is hear to help and hear our complaints and compliments.. Any help would be good

no no I meant.. If your driving in fourth gear.. When you let off on the gas you hear clunk..Then when you give it gas no noise just when you let go.... All gear's like that except for sixth..????only 1800 miles.....First 1700 just when i was shifting only some time's which was ok i can live with it .... To much now....
