The only time I have ever used fog lights in any car I've owned was in, well, fog.

Can never have enough cooling! Glad they ditched the lights. Used them once over almost a decade.

I don't remember the last time I used my fog lights even though I have 2000k HIDs installed in them. They're pretty much used for show purposes and cutting through the fog for visibility.

If you do this (and you know who you are), you in fact are an idiot, because:

1) You think it looks cool, and you haven't considered the potential problems to oncoming drivers, even with properly aimed units. Especially with high-wattage bulbs, which screw up the beam dispersion because the filament is not in the designed spot for optimal focus.

2) On a clear night (or even a mildly foggy one), these lights don't do a damned thing for you. I know you think they do (because you can see further right and left due to the broad beam), but if you're going more than about 25 mph, you're not going to be able to stop before whatever you see running out gets clocked. The range just isn't enough to cover even normal urban speeds, much less rural. In addition, due to dimbulb (snicker) U.S. lighting laws, you're not allowed to run around on fogs only. You must also have your headlights on, thus negating the entire advantage of fog light placement and beam cutoff. They're designed to get under the fog (from your eye's perspective) and avoid the dreaded reflect-back syndrome of headlights, which effectively blind you.

Of course, with aftermarket fogs, you have the option (if you wire them correctly) to use them without headlights - but then you risk a ticket.

Bruce
I take it someone driving a car with fogs on chased you down and keyed your car or something. You seem abnormally annoyed by the use of them.

My irritation comes from driving an M coupe around in a sea of SUV's with their fog lights on (for no reason) at about my eye level. It is actually illegal in most states to drive with fog lights on unless the weather is inclimate. Obviously, that law is rarely enforced anymore. I wish it was.
Well, I'm sorry for your past negative experiences with these SUV drivers, but I've never ever been affected by them, and I think they're good looking.

Fogs may be functional under certain conditions, but I live in SoCal so I'm not going to miss them. The worst is when people install HIDs in their fog light housing. OMG- glare city. Someone shoot them.

I'm just going to give my two cents so I can get my post count up. I was a little disappointed to learn it wasn't even an option but quickly realized it would have just cost more. It seems the only reason I ever used them on my other vehicles was because I had them and why not. But I also quickly realized that I was that guy! So I shut em off...
I'm glad I don't have fog lights or a rail of LED's attached to the front of my ride. Not that I would mind a new RS5 by anymeans.

Does anyone else enjoy driving with their HID fogs on w/ their angel eyes? Or is it just me? (I just ordered 6000k xenons and 6000k HID fogs + angel eyes for my 05 m3)
Is there anyway to add some kind of aftermarket fogs to your new m3s?

Either way, I STILL WANT THE NEW M3!!!
I just wanted to see what you all think about this? Did anyone else even notice...?
We very seldom have fog, besides I would not drive in the fog so I for one don't miss the at all

Don't kill me for bumping a really old thread. Any one tried to code up the car to use the cornering lights as fog lights? They sorta serve the same purpose to light up the area just infront of and to the side of the car. I might give that a try to be the first but just wondering if someone has already done it.
