Who Got The Most Off Msrp?????

I read all these threads and come across alot of rumors about pricing and off MSRP and invoice prices. In actuality I really want to know from first hand experiences who received the MOST of MSRP or even who managed to acquire invoice. Im going to put a deposit on an 09' coupe and im going to load it up with all the goodies so i want to know what wiggle room i really have. Informed individuals please oblidge.

I too have been monitoring this forum for the better deals and my observation in most of the first hand cases I've researched with the OP (not all), is that the better off-MSRP deals for non E90s are only from dealer lot purchases (inventory), not orders. Although there are a few postings where even some orders received minor discounting off MSRP (like ~$1K). So I'm also interested in seeing the first hand responses to your post

Should not be hard to get a great deal. M3's are selling much much worse than even I thought, as I just went to BMW of Monrovia (formerly Assael BMW) and they had over 10 M3's sitting on the lot! I was amazed... but thats what happens when you overprice a 3 series.

I didn't even negotiate on the msrp price. I negotiated at invoice price. My deal was $1800.00 over invoice on a silverstone sedan with cold, tech and premium packages. I think it equates to $3600.00 off of MSRP. Hope this helps!

This kind of thread is only helpful if you also post your region. What discount one person gets in SoCal is pretty useless for estimating what discount someone else can get in the NE. I've noticed that the biggest discounts seem to happen on the West coast, where there are higher concentrations of competing dealerships.

Good point. In addition it will be good to know if purchases are off the lot or orders, 09 or 08, and if leasing or using dealer financing or cash.

One dealer quoted me $1000 to $1500 over invoice (depending on options) for an 09 model here in S.Cal.

Well, not completely true. One can buy the car from literally any dealer in the country, process everything by phone/E-Mail/FedEx, then take delivery at PCD or an ED in Munich

i was told there is no Euro delivery on the M3.. im trying to fight for as close to invoice as possible because of considerable taxes... 7% plus luxury tax plus $1300 gas guzzler. Im in NJ and trying to deal with a few dealerships but i cant get a clear price from either.

This is flat out not true, although a lot of unknowledgeable CA's tell you it . [although you won't get an Invoice type deal]
Talk to some of the forum sponsors (eg, Adrian, Irv, Philippe, etc) and they will process an M3 ED deal for you
[hey forum sponsors, I should get a referral commission or something]

Yes, local market structure is a key variable.

+1 And some of the clueless CAs falsely believe they lose out if they do ED. There's a good discussion on this point here:

http://www.bimmerfile.com/2008/02/29...livery-part-2/

The potential negatives I see w/ ED (which I want to do):
  • limits financing options, some credit unions won't do it (tends to favour BMW FS)
  • some dealers may refuse - limits potential sales' competitors
  • dealers who do do it may be less inclined to accept an offer of MSRP - $x ; where $x is > $y discount when doing a local delivery

Good points.

The financing problem for ED is significant (~ 2%), which can add up to thousands of dollars over the life of the loan. Fortunately, you have at least a couple of alternatives (assuming your dealer doesn't try to feed you misinformation to force you into financing with BMW FS).

With respect to your last point, you'll get the greatest discount on an ED M3 by going to a dealer that frequently handles ED sales and is comfortable with the process. It's more paperwork and effort for the dealer, and some dealers simply don't want to deal with the extra hassle and others will want more profit to cover the greater effort. Those CAs and dealers who have a lot of experience with ED will be able to walk you through the process much more smoothly and with a lot less trouble on their end. You'll generally benefit from this in the form of a greater discount.

I bet the person with the most off MSRP will have a trade in, dealer financing and purchased a higher mileage car off the lot very late in the production cycle. You need to collect a lot more information than how much under MSRP in order to make heads or tails of the information you get.

I got $500 off, paid cash, no trade and ordered the car 1 month after the start of the 08 production cycle.

Ordered when announced. 1k over invoice which was 4300 off MSRP for what I ordered, a sedan. Repeat customer, and I'm relatively good w/ negotiations.

The mark-up over invoice is generally about 7% to 7.5% here in the midwest. I got mine at $64K for an alpine white coupe with every option available.

One of the best things to bring into the negotiation is to ask what the buy-rate is for the loan. The salesmen that I have brought this up to nearly shxt his pants after hearing that. The buy-rate is what the dealership puts on top of the loan amount (usually 1-2%) that can equate to alot of money for a $70K vehicle ($700-$1400). Even if they don't give up the buy-out, it shows the salesman A) you know what you're doing and B) you're serious.

Another negotiation tactic is to say you will take the car today, and be adamant, if they wish to get rid of it. There was a used Interlagos Blue that was 4000 miles, and they wanted $64,995 and I asked for $60K and they gave me $60,750. I decided to walk on the deal because the car wasn't in the color I wanted.

Hope this helps!
