From a performance stand point, not worth it at all! There are cars that will out perform it for less.
Correct, from a pure performance stand point this car with these figures would be over priced, it wouldn't even compete with the GTR which is hugely cheaper to start with. But it's not the competitors that would be my main concern but the older version of the CSL, with only 360hp (110hp less) it was capable of lapping the ring in 7:50 (5 seconds more).

The current E92 is a decent improvement over the E46 worthy of the extra price and everyone knows this, but what is being suggested for the new CSL would be a piss poor effort on BMW's part.

I sincerely hope if it comes it will be worthy of the title and improves the breed and not a cheap trick to gain extra profits.

Speculation, so what, we need raw proof. 143,000 is B.S. Price point should be under 100k. Tooooooo much competition already there for cars that offer more for less.

Well it would be nice to have a CSL model whatever the price. However, for me, if it has no AC, radio, etc... that is a car meant ONLY for track us and not for me at all. So I would rather take my regular M3 and mod it to similar hp, weight, etc... as the CSL while keeping some amenities. Remember I said similar peformance not equal.

I would like to see them sell some of the CFRP parts as performance parts, like they do for the 1 series.

CSL Announced... 470 hp

The rumormongers at AutoZeitung are reporting that BMW plans to unveil a stripped-out, track-ready M3 at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show. The E90-based M3 CSL will use many of the same tricks BMW employed on the E46 model in an effort to shave the coupe's curb weight. Luxuries like air conditioning, stereo and navigation won't be included, while the hood, bumper, trunk and fenders will all be swapped out in favor of carbon fiber pieces.

In addition to keeping the pounds down, BMW will reportedly boost the output of the M3 CSL by an additional 50 horsepower, for a total of 470 bhp. That should allow the E90 CSL run to 60 in around four seconds, on its way to a top speed of around 185 mph.

Production of the 2010 BMW M3 CSL will be limited to 100 units and pricing is estimated at 90,000 euro, or just over $140k.

gadgets and cool tech stuff FTMFW - the normal M3 is still a lot faster than we really need a car to be anyways.

Details will need to be confirmed but even if the CSL was 15k less, I'd still take the normal 1- this is a niche market for a reason.

The cars Euro to US conversion is inaccurate. In EU the M sells for about 70K euro in the US for 70K USD therefore as the points above already stated, if the car is 90K euro it will be ~90KUSD if it comes to the US.

Only Germany sells at that price ( and then you have only a stock M3), in all the rest off the EU the car begins at around €100K ( stock), fully loaded +€30K............sometimes even more................

You have to understand; the M3 in the US is realy a bargain compared to EU ........

German AMS published an interview with Klaus Draeger, member of the board and in charge of R&D.

Quote:
Dürfen wir mit einem neuen M3 CSL rechnen?
Draeger: Nein. Mit den bestehenden Varianten des BMW M3 - Limousine, Coupe und Cabriolet - sind wir mehr als zufrieden.

Can we expect a new M3 CSL?
Draeger: No, we're more than pleased with the current M3 models [sedan, coupe, convertible].
Not much more to say I guess.

Best regards, south

2010 CSL M3 info

credit to leftlanenews.com

The next generation of the BMW CSL (for Coupe Sport Lightweight) is due to debut for the 2010 model year, along with a freshened up ‘run-of-the-mill’ M3. The new car will follow the CSL’s less is more philosophy and go on a diet that will include deleting some of its creature comforts. Unlike previous CSLs, the new car will feature a bigger power bump to its 4.0-liter V8 as well.

The CSL will be a vehicle for the hardcore, getting rid of its navigation system and radio, along with all weighty speakers and the air conditioning system, as per Germany’s AutoZeitung reports.

To boost the power-to-weight ratio further, the engine is also getting a generous bump in power, expected to make 470 horsepower versus the standard car’s 420, although it’s not known if the freshened M3 will get a bump itself. The V8 seems to be capable of it, as it has already been fettled to make 485hp in the ALMS M3 racecar. The newfound muscle, along with various aerodynamic and suspension tweaks, will grant the car higher performance, including a 186mph top speed and a 0-62mph sprint in under 4.5 seconds.

Carbon fiber will again be found throughout the car, including in the hood, roof, side panels, rear bumper and front spoiler. A slightly less costly and elegant material will be used to line the trunk: cardboard.

Look for the 2010 BMW CSL to make its debut at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show. Pricing is expected to be the equivalent of $143,000, with only 100 units being made.

This is a car for people with 19 car garages. They park it next to their ferrari, and tesla roadster (electric car that can do 0-60 in 4) and only take it out when the weather is delightful. Its not a daily driver and definantly not your only car.
