$7500 off MSRP a rumor?

I heard a rumor that the M3's are now going for $7500 off MSRP. I'm in SoCal, not sure where the rumor started.

Any truth in this?

I would seriously doubt it. That would mean, even on highly optioned models, that the dealers would be taking losses unless BMW is offering trunk money that we don't know about.

I think that it may be possible to get the e90 at invoice, fully loaded could be close to the amount listed. However, we are not there yet. That will only be the case when dealers still have 08 6mt sedans in the first quarter of 09 and become desperate to sell the. EIther that or dealer demos with a lot of miles.

On a new coupe... no way.

For a new E92 ? Dream on.

Possibly for a E90 dealer demo that has a load of miles on it that has been a test-drive car.

So I can believe it.

Don't get me wrong.....that type of discount isn't common, but some dealerships are more eager to move product than others. I've been personally offerred between $2000-2500 off of sticker (..and invoice at my home dealer) on both the sedan and the coupe. The only reason I didn't bite was because of the negative equity on my lease. Another 12 months to go!

I haven't seen a new E90 even for $7500 off yet, but I have seen a used one with 600 miles for $10k off currently listed on eBay.

I could see that much off for some of the poorly optioned demo cars that have been abused... not sure I would even take one of those...

im guessing that used one is damaged. if you look at that sellers listings, a lot of the cars were in accidents. either way i guess now that i've seen 5k off at dealers, then with 09's most likely changing im guessing it will drop even more

The MSRP on the almost fully loaded M3 that I ordered is only $5,000 more than invoice. There may be some trunk money on these cars, but I seriously doubt it's much, if any. Certainly not $2,500. Granted there are circumstances when a dealer is willing to take a small loss on a car, but there is no way anyone is getting a $7,500 discount off of MSRP right now.

I think if it hasn't already happend it willl the 09's are right around the corner. And the M3 sitting at my local dealer a (a black/black E92 w18"s ) has been there since Launch the brakes are rusty as hell. Now If I could get a nice lease deal like $799-850 then I'd probably bite.

You would need a hefty discount.

Have you seen the residuals? Horrible, getting worse every month.

I'm waiting for the leases to be in the < $700 range... but right now that's not going to happen for awhile; BMW could be sending trunk money to dealers for nice discounts from MSRP but they really don't want any leases they want financing, IMO.

Lease rates actually have been increasing since introduction, regardless of the increasing discounts from MSRP in the same period. They have seen the future (residual value), and apparently the sucker doesn't look too good...

Question: Why lease an M3? Is this not the type of car one buys and hold for 5-6 years, then sell/trade-in for something better?

If my experience was an indicator... no. I barely made my downpayment back when I sold my leased E46 last November. Then just a couple of months after that the used market simply crashed for E46 M3's, being worth some $3,000 to $5,000 less from what I sold mine (same year, more or less same mileage, equipment and condition).

My lease was due in May; if I just had turned my car in to the dealer at that time it was going to be upside down by thousands of dollars.

We can see already what is going on with the new E92 M3 after some three months of introduction, when some dealers are selling them for $1000 over invoice. Sorry, but I cannot see myself dumping a big downpayment for financing a car that already depreciated that quick being at the dealer.

Don't get me wrong, I love the M3... just not that much.

It's interesting how different the situation is in different markets. Here in Houston, for example, several dealers have waits for the E92 M3. Like other regions, the sedan is not quite as popular, but dealers here have only 2 or so E90 M3s sitting on the lots. Most are still paying MSRP for ordered cars, and you're doing pretty well to break into 4-digit discounts off the E92 M3. In the months since they've come out, I've only seen two M3's on the road, both sedans.

Thats my thought exactly. Assuming you don't drive the crap out of it (I work < 2 miles from my house!), I'm guessing the resale will be much better than what the residuals show.
