Talking DCT Test Drive!

Had the opportunity to take a DCT-equipped 'vert out for a nice test drive today and it was an absolute blast. I know now what all of the hype is about. The DCT is simply phenomenal. I can't believe how smooth the shifts are in the "automatic" mode, even with the most aggressive configuration. After I hit the "M" button on the steering wheel I was able to take the shifting into my own hands (everything was set to the most aggressive setting, but DSC still on). Still, there really was no "shift shock" or anything like that but man oh man did those downshifts feel/sound incredible. Compared to my tuned 335i, you really do notice the lack of torque. However, when you really lay into the throttle this car roars to life. The 335i and the M3 really can't be compared.

I guess I am re-evaluating my C63 order now...The M3 and the C63 behave quite differently but they are both equally as enjoyable to drive. Right now I am really just in awe of the DCT.

Yeah was debating between the two and just ordered a 09 because I wanted DCT. If i get a benz now and next year Benz offer DCT on their C class then I need to upgrade again. The cars are so close so I decide to save the $ for gas

just picture having a coupe or sedan with 400 less weight than the vert. That's one pound extra weight per Horsepower.

Yeah the M3 vs 335i threads are completely worthless, completely beaten to death already.

First the test ride in Swamps car, then the test drive last week. I thought I would miss the E36 M3....after playing M-DCT for a week I find myself driving just for the fun of it Below is my test drive experiance.

Purchased off the lot at Irvine BMW last week, traded my E36 M3 for a 2008 E92 M3, M-DCT, Silverstone II w/Fox Red and Carbon leather, Carbon Fiber Roof, 19” wheels, Technology Pkg., Premium Pkg., Enhanced Audio, Heated Seats, PDC, USB adapter.

Ali Shayegan –Client Advisor was very helpful. I stopped in to purchase a lower inner fender panel for my wife’s 525iT and to show her the M3 colors. We’re looking at colors with Ali and are shown an E92 M-DCT in Silverstone II…….well not “my planned” color choice, but my wife liked the color combo. Ali offers a test drive (way to get me hooked), I teach Automotive Power Train and Automatic Transmissions, am I interested…lol. After my training lesson as a passenger in Swamps car I had been dreaming of working the paddles myself.

After the test drive my wife encourages me to purchase something different than my old color combo (Arvus Blue w/grey interior). She was right I love my new car!!! …….and my wife

Oh I know, that was in the back of my mind the entire time! That is quite a bit of weight.
