E93 w/DCT - first here?

My E93 with DCT has (finally) arrived! In fact, it cleared the port so quickly that its arrival to the dealer today caught me completely off-guard; I'm not ready to pick it up until Monday!

Talk about quick: The 'Courage' arrived in NJ on Wednesday (July 2). Even with the July 4th holiday the car was at the dealer on Saturday @ 10am. Impressive.

Hey there Spark! I think you are the first North American E93 M-DCT owner to report delivery via these forums. Congratulations! Many of us are a few weeks behind you.

I hope mine clears the port as quickly as yours did. I've had good luck so far with regard to production and delivery -- I got on a ship a week sooner than I was originally scheduled. I'm tracking it here: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=154469

Here is my 30-mile review on the E93 DCT that I picked up today. I know itís not much but, what the heck, thatís probably more miles than most automotive reviewers give a car. Seriously, these are only my top-of-the-waves observations because everyone else on this site has already done a great job covering the big points.

Overall impression: wow. A genuinely terrific car. Coming from a Boxster S (and a string of great cars preceding it), Iím very impressed by just what a comprehensively powerful and capable car this is. It is seriously good.

Main DCT impressions:
Throttle lag on initial acceleration. I know that this subject has been discussed extensively on this site before but, let me just say, no one has adequately expressed just how peculiar it is. Why oh why has BMW put such a dull edge on an otherwise razor-edge car? Iím sure Iíll get used to it Ė itís happening already Ė but why must I extend my right leg so much just to get the car to move off the line?? Very strange and I can only hope that BMW has an ability to remap software to make it more, well, normal.

Everything else related to the gearbox. Fantastic. I am one of the most confirmed MT people on this planet Ė extremely capable Ė and even I am saying that I could be very, very happy with this gearbox. So far Iíve not even touched a paddle Ė reaching for the stick is instinctive Ė but itís just great. Only S4 so far and, man, do I love how well it does the throttle blip. I think Iíll only get more comfortable with the whole setup. D-mode? Not for me, thanks.

Other impressions:
An amazingly comfortable car. Top up Ė itís tight & stiff (and, yes, a little awkward looking). Top down Ė hey, thatís what the convertible is all about, remember? Itís possible that Iíll envy those with E92ís for their flex-free chassis but theyíll not get the rear-firing soundtrack that we E93 drivers get. Oh, what a sound.

Color combo. Space Gray and Beige? When I chose that combination I knew that it was going to be a high-risk decision. Guess what? Itís actually pretty darn nice looking Ė surprisingly so, if I do say so myself. Maybe the anthracite trim helps blend the colors, maybe itís just a great secret combo or maybe itís my post-purchase cognitive dissonance at work (look it upÖ). No matter: Maybe it's just a matter of taste (or lack of it) but it really works, honestly.

Engine. It just doesnít get a lot nicer than this. If it was a capital crime to take this engine above 5500 rpm, most people would still be completely delighted with the car. Then again, there would always be some of us who would be prepared to face the gallows for pushing this thing toward the red line. OMG, what a terrific mill.

Thatís it for now. My first day summary: it would be hard to be happier with a car.

Outstanding, man! Love it! Congratulations on being the first M-DC equipped E93 on the boards!

Mine is slowly working it's way across the Atlantic... mostly across at this point. Getting more anxious!

Wow!!! That looks great. Indeed. Mine just hit the dock. Still a little wait.

I guessing you're out enjoying that ride, but if you have time tell about that wind sceen.
I belive i saw part of it in the last pic.
How does it look? Is it a necessity? Match well? Is that a wind screen?
I'm a little curious about the look rather than purpose.

A extra pic with it up would be superb, and a first, and so helpfull in looking into one.
