How Much Oil Have You Used So Far?
Just wondering if anyone else has had to top up their oil since the first service (yet).
I hadn't looked at the oil meter for a few weeks, but did a check yesterday and it was down to 2 green bars. Put in 500ml and it is now reporting full again. I've done about 4500km since the first service. |

I have done 2000 km since the run-in service and last weekend a warning suddenly came up saying that 1 ltr of oild was needed. Went to the dealer immediately and topped it up.
I have been doing a lot of short distance running and I don't know whether this is the cause for the increased consumption. The dealer told me it is normal for the V8 to consume a fair amount of oil ... but I didn't expect to consume the amount I have in just 2000 km. Any thoughts out there? ![]()

Done 5000 miles or 8000km so far, and no oil used yet. I stuck to the break in procedure and now I warm up the engine and drive it as you're supposed to. Lots of heavy acceleration and 150mph+ driving.

One section in my manual starts we can expect heavy oil consumption for the first 20,000 km (yes, 20,000, not a misprint). As for the exact amount, highly dependent on your style/type of driving I guess.

I usually do change oil every 10,000KM.. According to the basic maintenance of a BMW vehicle.. you must do change oil every 10,000KM and changing oil filter as well to clean your whole engine elements... if you always do topping litre by litre without changing the filter , it means that you are topping only not cleaning.. remember that the main purpose of your engine oil is to clean , cool and prevent from stocking you engine... do change oil instead of topping an oil litre by litre..
