i think there are too many people call themselves "Christians" but their life and decisions in life contradict that... its sad really

The country is often considered a religious one but really too many are just lying to themselves....

so my answer is Yes, people need to quit being "religous" and find God.

edit* : many are forgeting what religion is all about and are making it into a tradition instead of realizing the purpose of going to church, tithing, ect......

Without religion you’d have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things.

But for good people to do evil things, it takes religion.

Is it human nature to have morals, or to do all you can to make sure your seed is planted for the future?

Since most of our secular schools really do a pretty poor job of teching morality, and many parents no longer have the desire or time to teach their kids, that leaves those in religious callings to fill the void.

It's so difficult just to get my kid to say Thank You on a regular basis, and the worry about competition vs. sportsmanship in youth sports leaves me with little in the way of a village to raise my kid (or idiot, depending on yourpoint of view )

It SHOULD come from the parents. It has to if there are no other good influences. Don't expect the TV, your kids' friends, or the kids' teachers to teach them to make good decisions.

Life is all about 'Good Decisions' - making wise choices.

Then we have to give up our faith in "the ALMIGHTY dollar"! How would our country look then?

The government is making it even MORE difficult, at least in Cali, to provide home schooling. I don't know about your kids, but even when I tell him something I can PROVE is right and his teacher is wrong, it comes back to "but she's my teacher" and he's only in 3rd grade.

I have yet to deal with a 'wrong' teacher; my oldest starts kindergarten in Sept.

Personally, I try to stay away from 'right and wrong', as there is often a huge gray area, particularly when dealing with respected people (teacher, policeman, patient, doctor). I'd probably ascribe your difficulties with the teacher to 'miscommunication', and don't let it bother you.

Home schooling is very popular here in this part of the Southeast. I will start home schooling my kids if they start teaching 1 religion in the public school.

What was the topic of this thread again?

When we're talking math (and I have my undergrad in math) there is right, and there is wrong.

the fact that I would challenge his opinion of his teacher is tantamount to some of the challenges to God in this section of the board

I don't go to church, but I would never go to a church like what you're describing.

I wonder what kind of car the reverend Jeremiah Wright drives? Probably a Bentley..
