Thank you very much Skierman. This answers lots of questions that were asked here. Some of the guesses at answers that were posed were correct, e.g. the euro vs. us seat bottom. It would be nice to see BMW actually post on the forum once in a while to clear up some of the confusion around here rather than just read the forum. Anyway, I know you guys put in lots of effort on this. Thanks again.

Probably not
But why Larry (since I know you or someone who works for you are reading)??

I just want a non-ZTP with CA. I love CA. My wife has CA and I find it invaluable when carrying my baby boy to the car. Please Larry, let me buy my M3 the way I want it. Yeah, yeah, you know it - you know I'll order ZTP just to get CA, damnit. But come on. You let people order EDC without ZTP. You let people order Navigation without ZTP. Why no CA? I just don't understand.

5. Any chance MDM will be available as either a new standard feature, or a stand-alone option?
He can't put in the car without I-drive. If he makes I-drive standard then there's a big jump in price and then he's got a whole stack of people who complain they don't want I-drive in the car and they won't buy it. He has 25 or 30% of the people won't buy the car with I-drive so he won't make it standard.
But don't you see? Those same people who don't want I-Drive, still do want CA. CA is like butta - I mean it just works, and it will continue to just work. It's basically what every car will have within the next 10 years.

I don't understand why you won't allow us to check the CA box for an M3? It 's no R&D, it's no new development. It's merely allowing an option combination that's already allowed elsewhere all over the planet.

12. Why did the US M3s get different seat bottoms than in EU? Can the Euro seat bottoms be retrofitted on the US version seat.
Because the US gets different airbags than the rest of the world. The US airbags are multi-stage airbags that deploy at different speeds depending on the amount of weight sensed on the seat. The DOT rule for the airbags is OC3-MAT. The EU airbags don't require the same type of seat sensor. If you replaced the US seat bottom with a EU seat bottom you take a chance at messing up your airbag sensor and possibly your airbag deployment.
Called it!!

Ok, ok, to be fair I was talking about side air bags. But I was on the right track

(c) can be ordered as a special order color

Another question he asked the folks in Germany: You can place a "priority one" order, it will take about 3 months to get the car and it won't be a "friendly" price. It cost's BMW a lot to reconfigure a paint booth for an individual color, plus all the external "smaller" parts (like door handles) would need to be painted by hand, a very labor intensive process.
Haha...woohooooo...If it's <6K, you'll see me with a LSB E92 M3 next year

Also, wow...he didn't answer anything! LOL, perfect example of getting nothing and thinking you go something...He did answer a few though!

Thanks skierman!

thanks! even though my question didn't get the answer i was looking for at least now i know that i have to decide between tech package with m dynamic mode and edc or no tech package and no edc and go with coilovers. i guess that after hearing about my friends problems with edc and lowering springs i really wanted to avoid edc, but i really wanted m dynamic mode too. arrggh decisions!

Honestly, I think he answered everything he was allowed to answer and where he knew the answer.

I think there was illumination on some of the subjects. Any of the questions about products or changes in the future, he's not allowed to answer.

Thanks for the great effort but not a lot of info here....

Working for one of the world's largest companies I know how secretive we need to be on these issues.

I just was reading another thread and I remembered something Larry said last night. He said the car handles better on the 18" wheels than on the 19s. Something to do with a taller sidewall allowing the tire to conform to the road surface better thus producing more grip.

I found this surprising yet encouraging since I'll have 18s on my car.

That's very true. Be happy! (or get an aggressive camber with the 19s!)

"24. Why did BMW not incorporate the front reflectors into the front headlamp assembly like the 335 instead of adding the BUTT ugly orange reflectors?
Because they wanted the front headlight assemble to be white without yellow reflectors up there. Also there may not be enough side view of the front headlight assembly to get a built in reflector to pass the US standard. (Skierman64 input: my speculation is because of the active turn lights built into the side of the headlight assembly, reflectors can not be built into the headlight assembly)"

Who even wanted this question answered?

Thank god the orange relfectors aren't in the headlights.

It is much easier to color-match paint the reflectors, than spend ~$1,800 on euro headlights upgrade.

Hmm, interesting tidbit of info. Thx for all the work you've done.

mkoesel, I couldn't agree w/you more. Heck, even on the 1-series it's an individual option (though it's not in a package).

Thanks for taking the time to see this through. I really enjoyed what he had to say, especially about i-drive never becoming standard equipment. Ha. I also like the fact that they acknowledge these forums and consider what is said here by owners and potential owners.

For all of those people who didn't want the license plate on the rear bumper, 'you're welcome!'

J/k... I think?

8. What is the actual shift time of M-DCT in S6 mode (in milliseconds)?
They don't give them a time, however it's so instantaneous that they had to build some feel into it so it didn't feel like a CVT transmission. "It just goes, it's so fast"
That's probably about the best answer you're gonna get. With two input shafts and two clutches, during a shift, one clutch is engaging before the other one is disengaged. To quote a "shift time" you would have to define what is the beginning and what is the end. In the world of double input shaft and double clutch, that is a grey area and tough to define. By some definitions, it could be said the shift time is zero. If you define it by the time it takes to go from clutch fully engaged to clutch fully engaged, then the number will be smaller than the SMG or any conventional manual, which is great, but that doesn't give the DCT the full credit it deserves for the fact that no matter how small the number is for an SMG, there is some amount of time where there is zero torque being applied. With the DCT that never happens... there is never a point where there is zero torque. So just comparing some definition of shift time in milliseconds, even though the DCT will definitely compare favorably, doesn't give it the full credit it deserves.
