What's wrong with scientology?

It's a religion, practiced by many, to help get them through the day.

It's more of a 'life philosophy', than a religion with a deity, anyway. From Wiki, it appears that the founder of the religion detailed a method to become more at peace with the world. He made up some words to describe the methods, making it sound magical.

Really, it seems a lot like a re-working of buddhism, with a step-by-step approach.

But let's all get on the bandwagon, and shit on someone else's religion!

Have you actually read the theory about what Scientology is all about? Do you know how much people pay?

Find an unbiased description for me to read. I hope you don't believe all of that, just because it's on the interweb.

It is based on supernatural claims without any evidence. It is a huge tax-free business.

From wiki:

He extended this view further in Scientology, declaring that "thetans" have existed for tens of trillions of years (several orders of magnitude greater than what mainstream science generally estimates the age of the universe to be).

According to Hubbard, some past traumas may have been deliberately inflicted in the form of "implants" used by extraterrestrial dictatorships such as Helatrobus to brainwash and control the population. Hubbard's lectures and writings include a wide variety of accounts of complex extraterrestrial civilizations and alien interventions in earthly events, collectively described by Hubbard as "space opera."

Scientologists who have achieved the State of Clear may continue onto the Upper or OT (Operating Thetan) Levels. These levels are available by invitation only after a review of the candidate's character, ethics and contribution to the aims of Scientology.[69]

Individuals who have read these materials may not disclose what they contain without jeopardizing their standing in the Church.[69] Presently, there are eight such levels, OT I to VIII.[70] Church management has promised to release a ninth OT level once certain expansion goals are met.[71]

The OT VIII designation is only granted at sea, on the Scientology ship, the Freewinds, which was established to provide a "safe, aesthetic, distraction-free environment" for this purpose.[72]

Among these advanced teachings, one episode revealed to those who reach OT level III is the story of Xenu (sometimes Xemu), introduced as an alien ruler of the "Galactic Confederacy." According to this story, 75 million years ago Xenu brought billions of people to Earth in spacecraft resembling Douglas DC-8 airliners, stacked them around volcanoes and blew them up with hydrogen bombs. Their souls then clustered together, stuck to the bodies of the living and continue to do this today. Hubbard called these clustered spirits "Body Thetans," and advanced-level Scientologists place considerable emphasis on isolating these alien souls and neutralizing their ill effects.[75]

Actually it's not. It more closely resembles a cult than a religion. Brain washing, mandatory massive financial contributions, various nefarious and illegal activities, the largest ever breach of US Government security perpetrated by it's founder and others; shall I go on?

So, how are these claims of magical powers different from Christianity, Islam, and Judaism?

It's a religion. Just because it's different, don't shit on it.

How about child abuse? Does that fall under cult or religion?

27 February 2004: A report commissioned by the Church says more than 4,000 US Roman Catholic priests had faced sexual abuse allegations in the last 50 years, in cases involving more than 10,000 children - mostly boys.
1 July: The key accuser of defrocked priest Paul Shanley is dropped from the case by prosecutors.
7 July: In an unprecedented move, the Portland Archdiocese files for bankruptcy because of the huge costs from clergy sex abuse lawsuits.
The action halts a trial of a lawsuit seeking some $155m against the late Rev Maurice Grammond, who was accused of molesting more than 50 boys in the 1980s.
28 September: Prosecutors drop a case against former Massachusetts bishop Thomas Dupre, hours after he is charged with raping two children in the 1970s.
15 November: US Roman Catholic bishops elect Bishop William Skylstad as their new president. His Washington diocese faces bankruptcy due to the volume of compensation claims made by alleged victims of child abuse.
3 December: After two years of talks, the diocese of Orange County, California, settles a sex abuse lawsuit brought by 87 plaintiffs for an unspecified sum. The diocese later says the package is worth $100m (53m).
7 February 2005: A US court convicts Paul Shanley of four charges relating to offences committed in the 1980s including rape and indecent assault.
June: The Roman Catholic Diocese of Sacramento, California, agrees to pay $35m (17m) to 33 victims.
August: The Diocese of Oakland, California, agrees to pay $56m (27.5m) to 56 people.
December 2006: The Archdiocese of Los Angeles agrees to pay $60m (30m) to settle to 45 cases of alleged sexual abuse by priests.
January 2007: The Spokane diocese in Washington agrees to pay at least $48m (24.7m) as compensation to people abused by priests.
July: The Los Angeles Archdiocese settles 508 cases of alleged sexual abuse by priests for a record-breaking pay-out of $660m (324m). The deal is reached just before the scheduled start of a series of trials into abuse claims dating back to the 1940s. September: The Roman Catholic Diocese of San Diego, California, agrees to pay $198m to settle 144 claims of sexual abuse by clergy.

Got to say, they have some funny hats.

Way to post something completely unrelated. The difference is that those were the actions of individual priests and condemned by the Church. The cult of scientology as an organization perpetrates the acts I listed above along with many more.
