Carbon Fiber Driveshaft

Has anyone ever had a carbon fiber driveshaft on their previous cars? What were your opinions?

I contacted www.pstds.com and they said they can custom make a CF drive shaft in 2-3 weeks for ~$1000. You just need to take all the measurements that they require.

Since I have never read any negatives about it I just may follow through.

OT question: why would you want a CF one? i imagine you'd want a heavy one, not a light one?

Less weight means less rotational inertia = faster throttle response and acceleration

correct

essentially the ideal thing would be to lighten the entire drive train all the way to the tires. clutch, flywheel, light weight drive shaft, rotors, wheels, and tires.

Makes for an easier throw. Once you get weight moving, it takes more to stop it. So once you start the shift, the knob helps put it in gear. I was shocked at how much difference a weighted knob made. And a weighted knob isn't rotating mass, so it has no effect on the rest of the drivetrain.

I am thinking about replacing my front and rear windows with CF. I believe it can save anywhere from 5 to 10 lbs

Don't forget to replace the cylinders with CF as well.

I just bought a set of CF tires...

Seriously, how much of a reduction in the moment of inertia of the driveshaft are we talking about by going CF and what is the significance of that in relation to the moment of inertia of the other rotating masses? I am pretty sure the M3 has a hollow shaft and they've done whatever they could have to keep "I" of the crankshaft low. Lighter wheels seem like a more obvious target to me rather than the shaft.

My car will have CF valve stems. Less rotational inertia means better handling lol

Isn't $1,000 the negative...
