HELP! Trying to order M3 Conv w. DCT

I have a dealer in Clearwater Fl who is telling me ?Aug for first delivery of M3 convert. w/ DCT. Any merit to that?

Secondly - trying to locate MPG ratings. I have only found european specs which listed "urban @ 17.3 L/100km" and "extra-urban @ 9.4L/100km". Can anyone translate this. Reason - I'm being charged a $1,700 gas guzzler tax for I'm curious as to how bad the MPG really is.

Thanks!!!

gas guzzler research

looks like all M3's will get hit with the $1700 tax.

GGT is $1300 for Couple and Sedan +/- M-DCT. Perhaps convertible is worse...

Why not? It's heavier. If anything it'd be more ... not less.

The vert weighs 500lbs more. It will certainly have worse city mileage. Highway mileage should be near the same.

Please follow this link which explains the calculation from Km/liter to MPG, I hope it helps you, some BMWs have different GGT for different lines from the same model. Theoretically, the conv.should have lower MPG which may increase its GGT.

17.3 l/100km is around 13.6 mpg. 9.4 is around 25 mpg. Both in US gallons.

I was offered a June or July build by my dealer yesterday. BMWAG is closed all of August and no cars are built. To get delivery in August car has to be built in June. I decided to wait and take a Sept production slot. (2009 Model Year).

You can not just use a units coversion between US/EU/UK/EPA/GGT efficiency specs. Not only are the units different but the tests and standards and fundamentally different.

The convertible will appear in late May, and order banks are now open. However, the late May arrival (and all initial orders) will be for the 6MT. My dealer (BMW San Francisco) notified me yesterday that I could now place my order for a 6MT, but that if I wanted M-DCT (which I do) I'd have to wait until sometime in June to place the order.

Sortof sucks, because when they introduced the convertible, they introduced it with the M-DCT transmission. A lot of us thought the convertible would be the first car to receive this transmission but, clearly, that's not to be the case, since there are now coupes and sedans being delivered worldwide with M-DCT. So, we wait some more... [Sigh]

Would they actually make the GGT more for the vert? They didn't make it any less for DCT versus MT.

Coupes only (no sedans, no verts) until June production for DCT cars.
