E92 CSL Info

I mean, this is old, but I just saw it. PLEASE DO NOT QUOTE ME AS BEING THE SOURCE FOR THIS. I am merely a communicator! If this has been posted before, disregard!

Supposedly this guy, knows a guy with contacts in the M division, and it has been confirmed that a CSL will be coming out in Oct 08, and will cost >100K euros, which according to someone on e46fanatics, should translate to ~ 85-90K US. Supposedly, it will also be coming to NA.

If true, YIESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

I assume it will be ripped to the bone of all electronics and ac with a stiff suspension and no audio and... not for me I need a daily drive.

edit: and >$100. will be very hard to justify purchase for 99.99% of M3 enthusiasts.

^^edited original post.

I highly doubt it will be bare-boned. If it's introduced to the states, one must note that they really aren't the crazy performance country (in terms of lightweight track cars) like the European countries. So either the CSL in itself will be a little more raw than the E92 M3, or just the US-spec version will just suck, with nice fat-bottomed seats for the lardy.

Sorry mate, that was probably a bit excessive, it seems like fairly vague intel but I hope it is true.

The trickle down of parts, both OEM and after market would be awesome.

Agreed. And this is the same reason why MB is having a tough time selling the $130k CLK63 Black series even to their largest base of AMG enthusiasts in America. Most people will like the M3 for its versatility in combining a high level of performance and luxury, and they will buy a normal M3 spec'd to their liking. Why pay considerably more for a stripped out and lightened M3 when you can buy a bare bones M3 for $54k and strip it down and mod it yourself if you really wanted a track car. Most track enthusiasts prefer this route anyway. And for that coin, there are many better options for banging out faster lap times. You could get a very clean 996 GT3 that would pwn whatever CSL version BMW could ever produce for $85k USD.

^^Exactly why it won't be a stripped down version like the E46, and be a little more conservative for the US market. BMWs are masters of marketing, they will find a way to make sales!

It's amazing how people can put cars against each other that are not even out yet with a conclusion and speak about the performance of it with such conviction.

Truth is we just don't know until it comes out and is tested.

You are correct on about everything you said...IMHO

I looked at the black, and I looked hard at it. SWEET ass car...I was tempted. I always wanted a DTM and the black has some of that flavor in it. But, as you said, at $130K, its a tough sell.

Most peeps, if wanting a M3 track rat, would prolly buy the base M3 (or a used one) and strip it themselves....no doubt.

A 6 GT3 will prolly own it on the track. At least, it will prolly own the version we get in the states! lol. But it would be fun seeing who is fastest, that's for sure!

With the M cars growing bigger and heavier, I think a Z4 Coupe CSL would make more sense. Put the S65 V8 in, lighten it up, revise suspension and voila, ... CSL the way it should be. Alas, the Z4 will be leaving. Whatever takes it's place maybe could be the CSL? And let's not forget the 1 series (even though it is still portly).

Euro is stronger than US dollar. I believe 1 Euro is equivalent to 1.40-1.50 US dollar. So if the price is >100K Euro in Germany, then in US dollars it would translate to $140-150K. Of course this is the equivalent price in Germany and will be less in US based on market adjustments.

All I can say is that I really look forward to a CSL, that will certainly increase the number of parts avaliable for the regular M3! Too bad there are no pics yet!!!

It appears to me that for $100K US, you can buy a regular M3 and send it to Dinan to get to 520hp plus some other mods and build your own super CSL!!!! Its going to be interesting!!!

So, the car will be coming out this year?

Are any other cars that are coming out this year even remotely unknown at this point? I mean, honestly, does a car that is coming out in the current calendar year -EVER- do so as a surprise?

Does it?
