Delivery Report & Pictures - AW Sedan

Hi Folks,

Picked up my car yesterday. This is my fifth BMW and second M; last M was an E46 with SMG. I needed to consolidate down to one car to make room in the garage for my daughter's car, so the M3 replaces a BMW 550 daily driver and a Porsche CaymanS weekend toy. I was looking for a car that had the fun to drive and performance of teh Porsche and the utility of a sedan. I think I got it right - the car is fantastic! I am a very poor photographer - don't even own a camera, but I have posted a few shots. Random observations:

1. The M3 is an incredible amount of car and performance for the money. I am thrilled with the overall package, including the way the car drives and handles and the quality of the build and wide array of features. Being in break in I have not tested acceleration capability yet but it seems to be a very quick car.

2. The car gets a lot of attention. I've been waved at and photographed a couple of times in one day - my kids get a kick out of that. A number of people have commented positively on the AW/Black/Aluminum combo.

3. Car overall seems lighter to the touch and easier to drive than my E46, though it has been a few years. Steering and clutch effort are light, as previously reprted. For thoise who like to shift but a afraid of clutch leg in a traffic heavy city, I wouldn't worry about it.

4. The seats and i-drive are both much improved over my 2006 550. Stereo sounds great.

5. The 18's, to my eye, look better on the sedan than on the coupe. It's almost like they have been pushed out with spacers on the sedan, while there was more overhang on the coupe I saw with 18's. I had been thinking of going aftermarket but think I will keep these for now.

6. Exhaust sound under throttle sounds very nice. I expect it will be awesome once I can really hit it full blast.

7. My one negative at this point: I don't like the way the exhaust system hangs down and is so visible at the rear of the car. This cries out for and aftermarket solution.

Overall I could not be more pleased with the car. My dealer, Reeves in Tampa, did a great job including turning around the car the day they received it, including the M mats I asked them to install.

My final thought to anyone waiting for the car is that this car is worth the wait. I almost bailed and grabbed something else and am very glad I hung in there for the M3 - it is an incredible machine and well worth waiting for!

Steve

just one thing, how come some M3's have a black cover over the speakers on the doors and others, like yours, have nothing?????

thanks for the pics, glad you decided to wait and didn't give up.

could you elaborate on point #4 regarding the seats? reason I ask is b/c 550 is more of a luxury sedan and less sporty then the M3 sedan...

okay done reading your review! nice review. i think you got it right too bro.

as far as your negative point you either need bigger tips (or new exhaust with bigger tips) or you sounds like you want a rear diffuser maybe?

the black covers are the regular sound system, but these are the ENHANCED SOUND SYSTEM

My 550 was an '06 with the sport package. I thought the leather was nothing special, support lacking and I could never get the lumbar right. The M3 seats fit me like a glove and the leather is mich nicer than the '06 550 - later models might be better, don't know. The only caution I would offer on the seats is that even with the wings all the way open the could be tight on someone with a lot of girth. I'm 5' 10" 160 and they are very comfortable with great support...

I don't know much about aftermarket exhausts so I am no expert in this area, but I'm not bothered by the tips but the fact that much of the body of the exhaust system (not sure what it is called) is pretty much unfinished metal and hangs down below the rear bumper. Not a big deal, but wanted to point it out to be balanced in my review...

I hear you - believe me when it comes to driving it nothing bothers me yet either. Just let a neighborhood friend take it for a spin. He drives a 600 HP 911 turbo and has a GT2 on order and was VERY impressed. It's an incredible car and an amazing amount of car for the money...

I got the same setup as you but on a coupe. I think the 18's look the same on the coupe and the sedan. It looks good on both. Thanks for the pics. Those are the first i've seen for AW in a sedan. Looks good Congrats!

I believe that is the "look" of the enhanced sound system.
