This is actually a more accurate way of measuring engine power to ground. It takes out all the variables of driver skill at the launch. Which can vary widely.

I was on the track at Calabogie with an RS4 in the rain. I was much faster than him....in my E36. No, this is not a joke.

Yeah right! Please, get real. The RS4 is almost as quick as the new e92 M3 on the straights and the e46 M3 CSL gets smoked by the RS4 in straightline and in a track course and you're telling me that you beat the 420hp RS4 with your 306hp 645. I guess your 645 is faster than the e46 M3 as well. You definitely smoked something, but it wasn't the RS4. Here are some videos with the RS4 vs e46 M3, smoke this.

T-Bone, here are some videos of e92 M3 vs RS4, i'm sure you've seen all of this and it's not in english. But you can tell the e92 M3 wins.

And here's the M5board video of the RS4 vs e92 M3. RS4 owner was quite impress.

I'll take that challenge. Fly your car here and we'll run. Pick any track in North America.

Sadly there are a lot of Americans that drive with their heads up their asses. However, I've been all over the world, and Americans aren't the worst drivers, on average.

I just watched the Top Gear episodes in post #2. I think that answers the initial question quite nicely. Same driver, same track, same conditions. M3 is fastest.

RS4 drivers are always good sportsmen because they lose so often

Seriously, I have never seen the RS4 beat any car in the M5board videos, they are constant back markers. RS4 victories are pretty rare in a straight line or with some turns.

You were likely a better driver or the guy was hesitant to push his new $80k car in the rain. I know I would be. Unless your E36 is IP race car, I doubt you would have a chance otherwise.

No my car is stock (mostly). Clearly my E36 is not faster per the magazines, but on that day it was.

My point is: these questions where people are concerned with what car if faster than another only matter if you're capable of extracting the same performance out of a particular car. Few people probably are. Many times the limiting factor in real world performance is the driver.

Is that a 650i or M6? If it was the M6 you better win if its the 650i you beat the dirver not the car. I thought the level of discussion here was above the use of the word "gay".

He does'nt even have the 650i with 360hp, he has the 645i with 306hp. Therefore he is "gay" to lie about beating a RS4 with his 645.

It must have been the driver - I could just about keep up with a stage i e36 M3 in my S4 against a friend that is an equal driver around a track. The S4 also smoked him in a stright line , about 5-6 car legths to 100 mph.

even so its fun to smoke faster cars on the track isnt it?

Not that this changes the outcome, but the 645ci does actually have 325 hp, not 306. http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...t_drive_review

I stand corrected. The 645 is pretty quick and nimble for a heavy and big coupe, but no way it'll beat an RS4. I'd love to have one though, i've been eyeing a used one for $40k with low mileage.

I would expect to hear that BMW and others have similar occasions when their PRO race driver has lapped much quicker than Horst, he's a decent driver but he's not a pro of the caliber Frank Stippler.

If Audi had of used this 7:58 time as it's official time then they would has went down in my estimations.

No doubt but Audi's official time (or that of Sportauto's) is 8:09....Audi has not made claims for sub-8 minutes.
