Brand Loyalty?
People are brand loyal to cars for one reason or another whether is be cost to maintain/cost to buy/the "badge". I find brand loyalty has little to do with ones ability to afford a certain car but ones priorities. (ex, brother-in-law who makes $250k+ yr, drives a $15k pickup to/from his 20 min commute to work). Having a "nice car" isn't a priority in his life so he's not brand loyal cause he'll buy whatever is cheap and has enough room to drop in a deer.

I like cars. It just happens that BMW has the right "formula" that appeals to me. Of course, Honda (Acura) and Toyota (Lexus) are catching up.

I'm not brand loyal to anything and that includes cars, toilet paper, food, clothes and everything else in my life. If I buy something from a company and their next iteration disappoints then I switch to something better. I never settle just because of a name.
