Hello everyone,

So I have owned my M3 now for a little over a year and have not been very active on the forums. I came from a FBO 135i (Hence the username, 135) where I was previously an active 1addicts user.

I figured, since I have reached a point that I am happy with the car, it was time for a thread to show her off.

The story of how I came into my M3 is one that I always find funny, while my wife, not so much! Having recently dropped my 135 off at my local dealership to have the brakes upgraded (BMW Performance) everything was business as usual until I went back to pick my car up. While i was at the dealership waiting, the salesman that i had bought my 135 from, also a good friend of mine, was there and we took a walk down to the used car lot to see what they had - I had NO INTENTION on buying a car, just shooting the breeze as I was waiting for them to pull my beloved 135 back up. Well, I should have known this was a mistake - As we were walking around I stumbled across the perfect M3 for me, it was put together exactly as I would have if i had ordered it new - It had the right options, the right body color, the right interior, its was gorgeous. It was a very low mileage, competition package in mineral white with bamboo beige interior, Carbon Fiber Roof,BMW Perf. Carbon Fiber Splitters and Mirror caps - they only drawback initially for me was that is was DCT and not 6-speed! Oh well I thought, so for fun and in a joking manner I asked if I could take it for a test drive and see what the dealership would give me for my 135 - this was supposed to be a purely hypothetical exercise. Less than 5-miles into the drive I was sold and knew I had to leave with that car ---- So I did! I spent the remainder of the evening there working the numbers and signing the paperwork. I did not get to leave with the car that night as they wanted to give the full-service treatment and detail the car for me before I accepted it,so i got to have one final "Farewell" drive in my 135 to test the new brakes I had just purchased before handing it over to the dealership the next day. Talk about an impulsive purchase!

Here is my beauty the night I first met her and the following day when I got to take her home! (The is my 135 next to the M3, a before and after, if you will):

And when I finally got her home from the dealership:

So shortly after getting the car, I became bored VERY quickly. I was accustomed to driving a heavily modified turbo-monster and now I was in a stock car - The excitement of finally owning an "///M" wore off rather quickly. So off to the mods.

I began by listing out all of the parts I wanted and decideding how I wanted the car to look before i started buying. Once that was out of the way, the sourcing began!
Up first:
Amuse Ericcson Carbon Fiber Trunk
Arkym Rear Diffuser
Forcewertz Carbon Fiber Sideskirts
Volk TE-37SL
KW HAS Kit
and of course Tinted Windows
(All within the first two months I had the car, after clearly explaining to my wife that I only wanted an exhaust and tint, the car was perfect otherwise - WHOOPS)

Installation began - First up to get installed, the trunk and diffuser.

Shortly after I put those on, I got the KW HAS installed, I put on the side skirts and mounted up the volks. She was perfect - Or so I thought.

Well, that life and thought was short-lived. I had to get a Carbon Fiber hood, so, enter the Arkym Hood - after that point, I had all is these visual mods and was still on a stock exhaust, so naturally,I had to change that and went at first with the Dinan rear section.

So before my license plates had even arrived, I took a beautiful OEM M3 and tore it apart!

It became obvious that all i was doing was re-building my old 135 as I had all of the same parts on the 1er that I was putting onto the M3.

After a few weeks of driving it around with the raw carbon fiber hood and trunk I knew I had reached a critical part of my build and needed to decide if i was going to paint the carbon fiber to match the car, or change the cololr entirely to something new. Not wanting to end up with an exact M3 replica of my old 135, I decied a wrap was the right direction to go. Selecting the color was probably the most difficult decision i had made to date on the car and went back and fourth on 5 different colors for almost a month before finally deciding on the color that is now on my car - Satin Pearl Cielo Blu. The color had only been released a week before I saw it and as far as i was aware, I was the second or third car in the US to have it installed! It was a limited production color with only one master roll being produced. Sweet!

So the installation began and boy was it painful watching the car get torn down as far as it did - But ultimately it lead to a much higher quality finished product. So, off with the front bumper, the front fenders, 100% of the exterior trim, the side skirts, the door handles, the rear bumper, etc... you get the idea.

The first panel down!

And the finished product!

During the process of taking the car apart for the wrap, we weren't able to salvage the BMW Splitters, so naturally, I had to go out and buy a lip to replace them! Enter, the Arkym Front Lip.

After a shops terrible installation of the lip (See pic 2, at normal driving speed the lip pulled away from the car); and only THREE DAYS WITH IT INSTALLED, it fell victim to a set of railroad tracks and was completely destroyed - needless to say I was very upset!

So after destroying the lip, I realized that with the car being a daily, a lip probably wasn't the best option, and back to the BMW splitters I went - And hey, look who I ran into - My old 135! Naturally I had to take a picture and stand akwardly by the car until the owner noticed and came outside. It was nice meeting the person who bought my old car and know that it went to a good home.

So that is how the car sat for a number of months. Perhaps 6, before the mod bug struck again. I fell out of love with the Volks and decided it was time for a change, so I took to the forums looking for a set of wheels - but not just any wheels, I knew I had to have a very specific set of HRE's that I had always admired - the P43SC. After a short, and as fate would have it, while I learned that an old friend of mine was selling the exact set of wheels that I wanted and the Dinan midpipe that I had been desperately searching for to come up used since they dont sell them any longer. Needless to say, i JUMPED on this and bought the wheels and Dinan midpipe. Of course, if i was installing a midpipe, I had to get the car tuned and If i was going to do that, I might as well go full-kill so off to Mike Benvo with BPM i went. As a note, like most have said before, this guy was AWESOME to work with. Since we live relatively close he let me come over to his house to pick up my parts and he even did the install himself! I got his stage II tune, the DCT flash as well as his servotronics tune along with a tone of various coding - the full suite of BPM products!!

And here is how she sits today - I think I have finally found my happy place with the car and hope to lay off the mods for a while. My bank account could use it

Thanks Patrick - the wrap is holding up really well - it's been on for about 11 months now... The front bumper has a few blemishes and the hood has a "swirl" mark from my own doing :-/ otherwise it's like new!
