Night Vision Available in the 5 and 6 Series as of March

Now this is why I would get iDrive, lets hope this trickles down to the 3 series.

Not useless. Not when 2000 lbs animals are roaming the street.

Exactly, deer hunter anyone?

Could be fun sutting your lights off on dark roads too.

A 2001 Cadillac DeVille had Raytheon's night vision. At least that was in a heads up display. I wouldn't like to be near a driver looking at the iDrive to steer the car. Bad implementation in my opinion.

Is it just me or do the headlights in that pic look weak as hell. BMW headlights would definitely illuminate the couple and dog.

I wonder how it works in fog.

looks neat but id rather have the HUDs for our 3s...than maybe put the night vision through the HUD...that would be cool.

Yeah, the Cadilac system almost superimposed the night vision over your actual field of view. BMW puts it on the idrive screen, and MB on the new S class has it in the cluster. I cant imagine that being that useful, you would have hit the object by the time you

-notice there is something on the screen
-look at the iDrive to identify it
-look up and hit the brakes

BMWs are designed by engineers moreso than human factors experts.

I just got BMW magazine and they featured an article about this. I'm not saying it would be highly useful, but I'm a bells and whistles kind of guy. Do you think they'll have it as an add-on accessory for the E90?

True, in the city this really woudn't be necessary. But a feature like this would be a great asset for driving "out in the middle of nowhere".

I sure would have liked to have this feature a few weeks ago when I had a misfortunate collision with a raccoon in Northern NJ.
