M3 18" Wheels - The Discussion

It looks like one of these is the satin chrome finish and the other is the gunmetal finish.
Does BMWUSA just not have the right wheel up yet? Style 260 vs Style 219M. There are definately two types of wheels out there.

First one is BMWUSA's still in production website:

Second one is BMW.com website:

The second pic was the first version showing up on German/European Configurator and was replaced with wheels like shown in the first pic. Anyway BMW did only change that in the configurator, not in the visualizer. If that's the style 219 wheel? Don't know.
When looking at followin' pics I tend to think only the wheel codes (219 vs 260) differ, not the wheels itself...

Why would they have different codes for the same wheel?

True, does not really make sense.

From BMWUSA's Ordering Guide: (The same guide they sent out to all the dealerships to give to customers)

Quote:
M-style alloy wheels (Style 260M) with Satin Chrome finish, 18 x 8.5 front,
18 x 9.5 rear; 245/40 front and 265/40 rear performance tires
Looks like 260M not 219M

However, the standard features listed on BMWUSA's site;

Quote:
M-style alloy wheels (Style 219M),18 x 8.5 front, 18 x 9.5 rear; 245/40 front and 265/40 rear performance tires

Only the style number: 260M. Will have a look at the manual tomorrow, but don't remember anything mentioned on the finish.

I had been thinking that the wheel in the top picture was the graphite finish shown on the Euro cars and the bottom picture the satin chrome we would get in the US. The AW Coupe on the front cover of the US Product Ordering Guide appears to shown the satin chrome finish. If that were correct though I wonder why the cars in FL last weekend appeared to have the graphite finish...? US brochure does not picture the 18's at all. Maybe they are just becomming available at US launch time...

Satin chrome is also what is shown in the Feb Roundel, inside front cover.

Remember that just because a car is in the US doesn't mean it's totally US spec

Call it what you will, but I want the darkest rims. If the US spec are somehow brighter, would anyone from another country like to trade? I guess I am going for the "Darth Vader" look, which has been commented on here and there.

BTW, I am pretty sure one of the Driven for a Cure reviews stated the "paint" was chipping already on the rims. My assumption was they were not painted, but rather a homogenous alloy?

You are correct - it was Drive for the Cure in Florida. They are painted.

US will probably get the dark color - cause we whine so much about brake dust.

In another thread here someone claims BMW said quite the opposite to them, i.e. we're getting the chromier version
