BMWUSA.com: M3 Configurator Gone

Build Your Own M3 is no longer up.

Hopefully they are working out the glitches.

Just in case, I'll myself to soften the blow of humiliation.

I would not be to happy with their web developers. That section was full of bugs.

I cannot believe they did not even test this before making the additions live?

I think the last few days were the "beta test". I wonder if they do this on purpose for a few days, see how it goes and then roll it out on their main (login) page after the bugs are worked out? I guess we shall see in the next week or so.

I used to be a web project manager making large corporate sites like BMW. If i published files before testing every scenario and put it live i would be fired in a heart beat.

It reflects very poorly on the BMW brand and frustrates their customer.

That is why you have a "staging" site.

Send complaints to BMW Munich so they can bring some pressure down on BMWNA for having such a crappy web site. I'm sure BMWNA knows their site is glitchy and sucks but doesn't care because it's cheaper that way.

I could never really build it in the first place because the damn thing never worked entirely. What is building without pricing? What is building without all of the options? BMWNA is slackin', as usual.

Its unlikely the website is produced in house.

I used to do work for the company that formerly did Audi's website (they don't anymore). You'd be shocked at how non-scientific software engineering can be. If bridges, cars, machines, or anything tangible for that matter were produced under these conditions, we'd all be dead.

Unless the customer won't pay for it. Or they simply don't want to wait for the site any longer.

You can get there, just follow these links (thanks Radar, just added in sedan also). Destination has been added $775, and more of the options descriptions/pictures are linked.
