i was stuck with the same decision, but i was looking at the 08 cayman s when i was shopping and it didnt have enough punch for me. but the 09 offers more, but i still love the muscle of the m v8. my next car will be the cayman s. my parents were not so down for me driving a porsche, i agree its more pretentious than my e92.

No offense but at 17 years old, I don't think your parents should really let you be driving a car with over 400 hp (m3) let alone 300 hp (cs). Whats the matter with a 328/128/or cayman?
Didn't anyone hear about the 18 yr old who drove his M5 off a road and killed 4 of his friends? http://www.ocala.com/article/2008012...g-it-go-faster Maybe food for thought? |

17yrs. + 414hp M3 usually equals fail. I guess it's another way of controlling the population. Unfortunately it also involves other innocent people in the process.

don't listen to them. if you can drive, like if you've taken car control lessons, then just drive smart and you should be fine. i've had my 335i since i was 17 and i haven't had a single accident and avoided all the other dumbasses on the road.
i'd say go for the cayman s 2.0, if that's what we're talking about, or the pre-facelift cayman s. the m3 is nice but at you're age you don't need practicality and your friend will fuck up the back seats of your m3, no matter how much you watch out. or go m3 and mod it out. either way you're in an awesome situation.

Most people would say the Cayman S, including myself.
As some have said, I would have to agree that a test drive of both would truly let you know which one you'd be most happy with. ![]() Regardless of which one you choose, be sure to get a manual transmission. |

Got stuck with the same questions, but ended up picked up the E92 M3. Caz mods on porsche is crazy expensive.

Anyone can get killed an any car...fast or slow. What determines if one is a good driver or not is their maturity and I'm fairly certain we all don't know who this guy is... so lets not stereotype.
All one can say is BE SAFE. Go for the BMW M3, you won't be disappointed.

the 335i with a tune is faster than the m3, no? turbo + easy power mod = boy racer just like evo and sti and everyone will try to race you. I don't know why you guys recommend this killing machine to this lovely kid.
![]() I say go m3 all the way. Maybe the decent prestige of the m3 will calm you down as you know you already have a faster car than some 99% of them out there, so no need to show off. |

When I was turning 16 I had my eye on a 78 camaro that my father's friend had just built. 383 stroker producing about 500 rwhp on pump gas. Car was solid, and it was for sale. I had been working since I was 10 doing odd jobs and working in a bike shop, and had saved almost enough cash. My father wouldn't let me buy the car, and my father's friend wouldn't sell it to me (regardless of what my father said). I was pretty pissed and it caused one of the biggest fights me and my folks had while I was growing up.
A year and a half later I totaled a 120 hp car while driving like an ass. I understand that not every teenager drives the way I did, but who can honestly say they drive a 400+ hp car and don't ever push it? I thank my father now for keeping me out of the grave. |

I would never spoil my kid with a cayman or M3 as a first car. Death trap waiting to happen.

You can get to 100mph as fast in a Honda Accord as sports cars from 10 years ago. At least the M/Cayman can handle. I'm jealous!
Whichever you get, PLEASE do something like Skip Barber. Drive both. The Porsche has more forgiving handling IMHO. Very different cars.

imho, if you are truly mature enough (despite your age) to own and operate either one of these cars, I seriously doubt you would open the thread the way you did.
Nor would you respond in as you did in your replies (which is barely readable.) If you really wanted to have advice on what you suggest to be sincerely interested in, you wouldn't have emphasized your age and that your parents are buying you the car. Certainly you'd realize that you'd get more responses about that, than about a choice of cars. Plus you would have noticed that there are already two big open threads on this very question (M3 vs Cayman S.) And you would have asked some questions there. Sorry, but you don't really sound like a person with a lot of integrity and I doubt you or the driving public would be safe with you behind the wheel. But I'm just going to assume that this is either a troll or plain bs, and leave it at that. Cheers. |

Okay, let me say one thing. I don't drive fast. no matter what. I know that anyone can drive a car into a telephone pole. I also know that even in a Honda, going 50 miles an hour can get you hurt. This is not a question of maturity, its a question of opinion. I didn't ask your opinion on my maturity but on the cars... Yes i am going to test drive them both, but i still wanted to hear others opinions.
