I for one would be more than happy to give a military discount! THANK YOU ALL who are prepared to die to keep my family safe. Whether there is validity to war or not, these people are risking their lives. FU if you can't offer some respect! Who cares about a lousy $10,000. These people deserve our respect and gratitude.

For serious! And lets not stop at military car discounts, college kids get discounts at the movies just because they go to college!? And it's, not just them - old people too. Why? Just because they're old they expect deals at the movies? I mean, WTF right? That just makes the regular price for the rest of us go up!

lol

I'm I did not say at all that anything was the "fault" of the armed forces. I sincerely appreciate the 'forces: my father was a naval officer, as was my brother; and I have many friends who've served.

Absolutely each profession has its pros / cons, ipso facto. Nor did I argue that the economics affected the price the average buyer pays.

The only argument I made was that a relative income disparities does not make a case for discounted pricing. This would apply to any category of profession - not only military. I think you and others have confused me with others' objections to MIL pricing, which I clearly stated I did not have an issue with.

I think it is cool that some GIs can afford these cars with a discount. In the first Gulf War, Uncle Sam didn't pay us sh*t. More power to you with the discount!

It appears that the post-modern world has lost the fine sense of irony.

Look man, if pricing doesn't happen on Monday, I'll promptly post inflammatory stuff about Mil Sales and god and politics on any other thread you start on this forum (including your highly personal "hey guys I just got my M3 and here are the pics!" thread), so you'd better be right!

bmwusa marketing should have set up a website/contest where people could take one guess at the official USA MSRP and win something... cripes if they charged $1 a guess they would be able to subsidize the actual R&D put into the e92 m3 and offer a "special" 3 series at a respectable price rather than the projected 911 territory.

step back a bit... why did a loaded "regular 3 series" (335i) hit $50k? the 335i could have been badged the M3 and the upcoming m3 could have been badged as a new model RM3 or something and then nobody would whine about the high price for a special car... heck mercedes started adding the name of colors to their badging to clarify for consumers the different pricing levels.

If +/- $10g's is a deal breaker it is not a rational financial decision in the first place... too bad these cars are so sweet that rationality is tossed out the window for emotions haha

base e92 m3 "guess" $57,000... a slight premium over the s5

I find is quite disheartening when folks can not even discuss something in a pleasant fashion and still disagree. Most threads go totally OT here so everyone should just accept that. I find the Military discount topic quite interesting and I say to those demanding a thread closure - wake up, get real. Are you really that insecure?

I have never said a single offensive, belittling, disrespectful, dishonorable, etc., etc. thing about Military folks. Nor (Epacy) have I shown any "intolerance" whatsoever. I fully appreciate the difficulty of overseas service. A friend and colleague of mine with two young children has to be without her husband and partner for extremely long periods of time and I see first had how difficult it is. Again - if you don't want the difficulty don't sign up. At the same time don't complain after the fact or have a sense of entitlement ex post facto. It also it totally irrelevant to tell us folks who have not served to "go give it a try" to see if that would change our opinions, that is simply an absurd argument. I also never said anything as ridiculous as those with special discounts should not take them, only a fool throws away money.

I still think the discount should not exist.

The "proof" seems fairly clear that the program does not cost non-Military people anything but the reasoning is incomplete. There is an opportunity cost, the vehicle being sold at a discount is one a dealer does not make a profit on, and for a car sold in somewhat limited numbers, that profit hurts US BMW dealers, their business, profits, employees and ability to hire and create new jobs. Sure it is quite a small effect but it is a real one. Do I feel any need to defend clueless "stealers", clearly not, but there is a financial argument here. Next the program cost all tax payers money because there are administrative and salaried folks to take care of the entire process, tax dollars "at work" and simply more "fat" IMO. Could we find infinitely easier ways to save tax dollars and save way more, sure, absolutely, but that is not the point here.

The last thing, one that is immensely interesting to me, is that non-Military folks seem to fall on both sides, in favor and against such discounts. What I would find particularly enlightened would be a Military person and luxury car fan that could and would argue that the discounts don't really make sense nor are justified. Anyone want to bet on that happening?

I agree. Same situation as the 335i. BMW will drivel on in marketing speak about "efficient dynamics" and "race bred", etc., etc.
