Exclamation Power Folding mirrors

Greetings! I have been reading this forum for probabley around 6 months for at least 4-5 times per day. I currentley drive a 750li (08') and an X5 (05') and plan to get a e92 M3 coupe (however I am waiting for M- DCT) Finally a couple of months ago i created an account and finaly have a great question. I see for the Premium package it has power folding mirrors. I know on the 750li the mirrors fold kind of cool the go kindof upward. I wanted to know if the M3 is like this
Please post pictures if possible.

No - I'm almost certain that the side-mirrors of the E92M/E93M fold inwards and not upwards.

I believe that is correct. They fold inward, partly due to the dual attachment design. It kinda looks like your mirror broke.

The upper strut is not an attachment, it's just made to look that way and is not connected. This photos shows the arrangement well--it pivots on the lower connection, which is angled, so it goes back and up. This photo actually shows Melbourne Red at it's best--you can see the metallic.

Yeah, I knew it wasn't attached. That is why I was saying it looks broken when folded back.

"Form follows function"? The extra strut must provide downforce or something

Apparently you can't program the M3 mirrors to fold in from the key, was one of my favourite features on my E60

Correct. And you also have to extend them manually every time, so it's not really a girlfriend-friendly feature!

(Av. distance driven per journey with mirrors folded in c. 0.5 miles )

No jokes this time.

Yes, you have to press the button to extend the mirrors. Every time.

Yes, I let my girlfriend drive the car.

(And she only passed her driving test the week before I picked it up, by the way).

Oh, I thought you meant you had to do it by hand. Like walk to the passenger side to extend it. Thought that is what you meant by "manually".

After the "God" thread I'm getting quite used to being taken too literally. Don't worry about it

(Anyway, I'd make my girlfriend do the passenger side if that were the case).

I forgot to unfold mine the other day and they unfolded themselves after a bit of driving say 100 yds or so. And, yes I am disappointed that I can't fold them in from the key, still can open / close windows though.

Are you sure you can't fold them in from the key?

I had an E90 330d and you could do that.

Just lock the door and keep your finger pressed on the button for a few seconds. It should close all windows if not closed and fold the mirrors in.

No, unfortunately you can't, BMW have changed this for some reason. My wife's car does it but mine does not. If I hold it down to open then it unlocks the doors and is able to bring the windows down. If I hold it down to close then it locks the doors and closes the windows (if they're open that is). But, it will not do the mirrors. On my wife's car it does all 3 things both ways.

On my E60 this was a dealer set option that couldn't be enabled via idrive, when I asked the dealer about it when ordering the M3 he went and discussed with the mechanics and they said the same, "this functionality has been removed from the latest cars"

Based on this I didn't bother ordering the option
