See this thread from a respected member (Cosmos) of the M5board. This guy with his stock M6 is getting sub 8:20 at Nordschleife.... I see no reason for us to disbelieve him on BMW not planning for a M3 CSL.

You say someone who claims an M version of the X5 and 6 is coming is respected? He's mental. M won't touch a 7er, you really expect them to touch an X? Not a chance in hell and if they do, BMW and M can go hang. That would be like Porsche making a GT3/RS Cayenne. Pimping out the heritage to chase new, disinterested punters.
As for being told there was no M3 CSL coming by the brand manager for M in the States? Yeah, he's going to tell a potential customer that there's a better version coming in a few years. Yeah, right.

Bull. An M-sport version maybe, but they have as much to do with Garching as I do.

The body-kit is apparently the same one used for the hybrid concept. The engine is likely to be the V10 from the M5/M6, or indeed if it comes, the upgraded M5/M6 engine. You better get your facts straight. |

Get my facts straight? You don't even have a source to show me? Besides, the spy shots I've just seen of a supposed X5-M could be nothing more than a successor to the X5 4.8is. It also has the front bumper from the X6, so could have been a cooling mule. I'll quite happily eat my words when I see it, for sale. By then, M will be worth nothing, regardless of how good they make it. It's still an SUV.

And yes, there are direct quotes out there (I really cannot be bothered to find them) from the people at the M division, and they say that the X5 isn't a suitable platform for an M product, but in no uncertain terms, that doesn't apply to the X6. |

Whatever, I don't want to see M being whored out like this. If you can live with it, fine. I'll be the first to concede I'm wrong if this does happen.

Back to the issue....no M3 CSL?
If M is working on a X6M, then I can't see them having resources to do a M3 CSL while working on the rumored M10, M9, Z10 etc. or they will working on the F10 M5 / M12 M6 BTW, I don't think they will do anything but M3, M5, M6 (and maybe the M10, M9, M1) for branding. They will do X6M like they do for the Z4M, so not a complete "whoring" out but kinda like stripping.

Some believe they have already seen the early model CSL on the 'ring.
http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=82051 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() As for the M version of an X5 model... we've already seen some spy pics of that as well. Black: http://www.worldcarfans.com/6070725....5-m-spy-photos ![]() ![]() Gray: http://www.worldcarfans.com/9070830....s-new-evidence ![]() ![]() More pictures can be found on both sites for the M X5. *edit* Found one more site with a different picture. http://forums.trucktrend.com/70/6419...ics/index.html ![]()

Who says it's for an X5 M? The article on World Car Fans is just speculation. It could just be testing the 4.4 V8 twin turbo engine in the X5. |

I don't really track the X5 line up. I remember there use to be 3 models with the top of the line being a 4.4 V8. But I also know that the old top engine model was discontinued. So, why would they bring it back under seemingly similar conditions unless it was an M?

Either way, with your knowledge about BMW's plans to build an M X6 I'd say that there is a 50/50 chance that the pictures are accurate. The other 50% being that they are the V8 TT you speak of. I'm just referencing other topics and websites and their content.
Don't shoot the messenger mate.

An M version of the X5 is probably not as close to reality as an M version of the X6. They will probably test the waters with an X6 first before the X5 as far as an M version for production is concerned. |

I think the question was whether there will be a CSL imported to North America. This we can only hope for, but given our safety regs and low interest in truly track-oriented cars I am pessimistic about them importing it.
As a sidenote, did you see how big those front wheels were on the red CSL? I'm definitely thinking Carbon Ceramic brakes on that puppy. Please, BMW, BRING IT TO THE USA!
