Hey, I'm just roughing you up a bit by more or less quoting you.

Pigeon hole you as a fan boy? Not really - but a jury of my peers might exonerate me if I said that sometimes the clearance between you and fanboy status would tear tissue paper to shreds.

Bruce,

Your estimates are correct and so is the weight of the M3 because we already have a bunch of test results to go on and none of them are as low as the one from R&T.

I reckon your money is safe.

2 very nice cars but very different,

a bimmer follower is going to always go for the M3
1. smoother
2. more refined
3. better steering feel

the vette fan always the vette
1. looks nicer
2. raw power
3. better track car

the vette is faster, what holds it back is
1. traction limited can't put the power down.
2. poor intake system, just a cold air intake and v-ram will cut as much as .4 of the 1/4 mile times.

look here and this is an 07

The vette may be faster, but it's not as refined, or as nice to drive as the M3. It only has 2 seats and it's much less daily-driver friendly. Apart from that, even though I don't find that the car is ugly, it's too much shouty and cheese. (kind of vulgar in this days).

That's why it has lost market Vs the european models, even though it's a bargain (performance Vs speed). I really think it's a great car, specially now that they offer the option for full leather interior, but I wouln't buy a vette over a BMW, Audi, MB or other european cars.

Nissan: GTR
Lexus: ISF
Porsche: 911

and of course the really expensive makes.

as it may be you'll be seeing the tail pipes of that chevy 9 out of 10 times, no I take that back 10 out of 10 times.

I agree, but to get the same performance would cost so much more to buy say a

1. R8
2. 911 GT3 or Carrerra S
3. Aston Martin

I must say though the new GTR is very tempting, but I say it'll take 1 1/2 years before the price gouging subsides.

and while the vette is not as refined, it's does drive well and one hell of a performer. and is very good looking, and it is fun to pull on E63's, M5's, 911's, and 360 Modenas

Own an 08 C-6 and have spent 2 days with the M3 at

The Nurburgring even have a 335 convertable (my wifes) to compare it with

On a race track, the lighter C-6 will prevail hands down, the 436 HP
make it closer to a M-6 a Ferrari 430 is just marginally faster,

The reason I am buying an M-3 is as a daily driver, period it is a different car
the C-6

If you are planning on a drag race, don't tell the guys in Munich They will cringe and hope you buy something else

Real Racing involves cornering

IMHO anyone that has owned a BMW would most certainly not consider buying a Vette. Especially knowing that the ///M division is coming out with the new M3. to me they are two totally different cars and the M3 poops on the Vette in every way possible (sarcasm)

Couldn't agree with you more. I currently own a 335 but was holding out to see the pricing on the M3. We can go back and forth all day about the pros and cons.....the one thing that jumped out (to me) was price:

08 Vette with darn near every option in the book sells for about 55K (dealer invoice or possible invoice +1K)

M3 STARTS at $57K...and when I added the options I wanted I was up close to $68K

~$13K is alot of money....somewhere around $250/month on the car payment.

That being said...no way to "win" on one side or the other. Vette people will always back their cars and likewise for the BMW crowd.

just my $0.02

For me it boils down to money. While I can afford $55K or so for a Vette, $65K+ for the M3 is just outside my budget. I'm sure that I could order a car with only a couple of options and be closer to $60K+....but I'd always feel I was "shorting" myself. Believe me...if they were closer in price, there would be no contest...The M3 is just spectacular.

Getting back to the main topic...since the cars seem to be so close in the 0-60 race, I think the deciding factor is going to be the driver.

that is your choice, I can afford either vehicle, and my choice is the C6.

Like you said it's down to preference.

But when it comes down to just performance.

Stock for stock

a M3 will never be able to stay with a Vette.
Equally matched drivers, the M3 will always see the tail pipes of the Vette.

As the thread said which is faster a C6 or M3

let's see what's faster than a M3, 2 vehicles in this comparo

http://www.caranddriver.com/comparis...z-e63-amg.html

Low and behold, the C6 is faster than those vehicles, hence it's faster than the M3

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nordsch...test_lap_times

http://www.caranddriver.com/features...-lap-2007.html

that was a LS2 without the steering, engine and transmission improvements, I'm sure the LS3 will cut a couple of seconds off those times.

I know given the same driver, the C6 would outrun me. But having said that, I kept right on a C6's tail at the track until we hit the straight. As soon as we hit the corners again, I caught up. This was in my mostly stock 325ci... I'm anxious to see how much quicker the M3 is on the track.

I remember one episode of Top Gear when they got a driver to cut 25 seconds off his lap time with coaching.

Does a driver make a difference? yes

but in the topic M3 faster than a C6? the answer is no
it not what the driver can do but what the car is capable of:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nordsch...test_lap_times
1. E92 M3 8:05
2. 2005 C6 7:59
3. 911 turbo 7:56

yet in this comparo the C6 is faster,

http://www.caranddriver.com/features...-lap-2007.html
cars are always making small minor tweaks, I'm sure the later M3 models will be faster also.

but in this comparo it was a 07 C6 not an 08 which has
1. more HP
2. better steering (C&D advised the new steering allows the new C6 to enter corners as much as 4-5 mph faster)
3. better tranny

I drove the and 08 c6. It is fast. Simple power to weight ratio. The c6 is faster than the m3.

the corvette is not as cheap as you think. you must invest in an array of gold chains and several toupes to drive one.

I would trust these sources instead

here is tests done by car and driver
08 C6
http://www.caranddriver.com/assets/d..._z51_08_ss.pdf
08 M3
http://www.caranddriver.com/assets/d...mwm3_08_ss.pdf
08 IS-F
http://www.caranddriver.com/assets/d...xisf_08_ss.pdf

here is more stuff for your knowledge

and these sources have the 08 C6 LS3 quicker than the Audi R8 and the R8 is faster than the M3.
