iPhone and M3

Anyone gat an iphone and using it with their car?

I have and when connected via USB for music I get a message saying I can't use the phone.

Given that Apple and BMW have got themselves together in USA, surely they have worked it so you can use the iphone for both???????

Anyone got any info/advice/experience?

Cheers

Interesting question. I want to know that as well since I'm thinking about an iPhone!

OT: How's the calendar in the iPhone?

My wife's iPhone works just fine with her 2006 5er, so I see no reason the same would not hold true for the M3. The phone book downloads to the car and bluetooth works seemlessly for handfree use. The idrive screen also displays signal strength, last 8 numbers called, etc. The same is true with my Blackberry 8820.

Not sure what you mean, but I find it very good - like the rest of the kit - it's really very good.

I picked up my Iphone two days ago. It's only 8GB, but I love it. So far so good. I hope it works with the USB interface in the car because I hear that people are having problems.

The iPhone is fully compatible in the USA with the OEM Bluetooth section of the Assist Telematics system. There's even an OEM cradle available now: http://www.bimmerboard.com/forums/posts/451082

You should check if the USB/iPod cable provided with the 6FL option is the latest one, although I'm not sure if the iPhone is compatible with the Europe TCU yet as to use it in dual mode (Bluetooth and iPod).

Most probably you need to get your TCU code-updated with the latest version...

I have the iPhone but am missing the M3

The calendar is the least impressive app on the iPhone, IMO.

The email / maps / stocks / web (bit slow but amazing functionality) are way better - overall I love it! The ability for e.g. - today - to call up a map in Dallas, find a restaurant, get the webpage, get directions and then map the route using maps.google and also to dial the restaurant = all in 5 mins - killer apps + tool.

I find the calendar to work nicely - surprised even how nicely it works with PC based Outlook. The weakest feature (or non-feature) is the inability to send or receive photos via TXT - sure email is the solution, but it doesn't help when friends/family send you something (and ATT's solution of viewmymessage.com is a joke). No multiple recipient txt'ing and no copy/paste function is also irritating.

Other than that, its amazing.

It works with mine

....it does help to turn wifi off though, it seems to interfere with the bluetooth sometimes

Its supposed to work if you have the ipod/USB adapter.

When you connect the iPhone via USB it tells you somethink like "This accessory is not made to work with iPhone. Would you like to turn on Airplane mode?" Just click on NO and also the phone functionality works fine. Referring to USB interface: If you don't have the latest Y cable it won't be charged.

As someone mentioned already a snap-in adapter/cradle will be available (end of this month or early Jan). This cradle has a minor "flaw" IMHO: When you put the iPhone into this cradle you can't connect to the USB connector and thus not listen to your music.

Best regards, south

You can actually just leave it as well ... it will eventually time out, and will select NO by default.

As far as issues with interference with the audio during calls (such as drop outs), if you experience this then switch the wi-fi OFF.

Haha, you may be missing the M3... But the M3 does as that as well ;-)

I need a good calendar, using the latest Nokia Communicator (e9300 or something), just because of the calendar. And the iPhone hasn't even been released in Sweden yet... Although it's possible to get a cracked version, which I'm thinking of.
