I have just read the article and it is as you said. Here the acceleration times between the two cars (C63 vs M3).

C63 times in Black and the M3 times in Red

0-30mph ----- 2.7s vs 2.7s
0-40mph ----- 3.8s vs 3.4s
0-50mph ----- 4.6s vs 4.6s
0-60mph ----- 5.6s vs 5.6s
0-70mph ----- 6.8s vs 7.2s
0-80mph ----- 8.1s vs 8.5s
0-90mph ----- 9.5s vs 10.0s
0-100mph --- 11.3s vs 11.7s
0-110mph --- 13.2s vs 14.1s
0-120mph --- 15.4s vs 16.5s
0-130mph --- 18.3s vs 19.1s
0-140mph --- 21.9s vs 23.0s

All of these times were achieved on a damp track so they are a bit slower than one might expect.

Braking from 100mph - 0 both cars covered a distance within one foot of each other C63 (389ft) vs M3 (390ft) in an identical time of 5.2s.

I am very impressed be the M3's times compared to the C63 when you consider how much more power and torque it has.

It is impressive but not that surprising. This is the typical M3 vs. AMG outcome brute force vs. finesse; one faster in the straights the other in the twisties. We have all heard how much effort AMG put into this chassis and the steering this time around with what has been reported as incredible results. I think the lesson is, though the handling margin has become smaller, BMW M has not been asleep at the wheel. The E92 chassis had its innovations in the basic 3er including a totally new multi-link rear end and then the M version gets most suspension and suspension sub frames in forged aluminum with revised M specific geometry, new aluminum struts, and plenty of other M specific features.

Actually EVO are the only UK mag which has placed the M3 ahead of the C63 on UK soil, all the rest are rating the Merc higher. Personally I believe the reason EVO are getting it right is that they are running the car long term and have got pass that getting to know the car stage that most are finding the M3 more boring than before which isn't the case it's only it more like an onion now with multiple layers.

Though I think I have shot myself in the foot with that idea as Autocar are also running one long term and I believe they are rating the C63 higher. Oh well, you can't please everyone and in an case the world would be a boring place full of only M3s anyway.
