Yes, ditching the accordion style OEM elbow for a larger/smoother transition and a filter is the way to go. Personally I just wanted to get rid of the OEM style tension mounting and go to a traditional clamp on filter as it seems to seal better than the OEM one.

Sounds glorious and heat soak isn't really an issue as I run a heat shield under the filter where the radiant heat would rise. The OEM air scoops do a great job of keeping cool air flowing over the filter once moving. In fact I can touch the filter from sticking my hand in the inlet on the bumper.

(note that I'm also running a DEI blanket on the coupler to the intake itself as it's a rubber coupler as AFE doesn't provide a silicone one. In fact it's hard to find a silicone piece that's this large. The rubber eventually cracks over time due to heat exposure without using the shield but a quick call to AFE gets one shipped free of charge ASAP. Great customer service IMO. Instead though I just run the heat shield. Been on the car now for some time and looks/sounds awesome. The filter sock also keeps the filer almost 100% clean.

Is that with an otherwise OEM intake? I want just a bit more intake sound - but want to stay OEM air box.

Pics of this installed please? It looks great...nice alternative to the expensive Dinan piece.

Get the BMC filter with the OEM air box...it'll give you that sound you want and maybe a little more power as well. It's my current setup.

Thanks for the update! Do you have a shot with the OEM airbox closed. Just wanting to see a finished look.

Do you think the non-oiled filter is the way to go?

I prefer dry filter,I had K&N filter on my previous cars, they are never good as new after cleaning and re-oiling and they shrink. In instructions aFe recommends to use vacuum cleaner for dry filter.

Dinan Elbow with BMC filter on mine. Got the BMC drop in, significant intake noise increase. Dinan Elbow modest increase - but most for bling. Excellent fitment.

Just a heads up everyone buying from California:

DO NOT BUY FROM THIS PLACE.

THMotorsports is a joke. I purchased this intake using the link above. An hour later I get an email stating that my order was cancelled and refunded because this intake "isn't CARB legal." Haha What a f*ckin joke. It's a car part, not a gun or bullets you jokers.

Anyways, on the hunt for a new place to purchase this for a similar price somewhere else...

Whoever set up CARB (California Air Resource Board) gave them a pretty big stick. Between fines and lost business they've cost a lot of aftermarket high performance companies tons of money. CARB is the gorilla in this state and nobody wants to mess with them. I don't blame any of these businesses for avoiding Cali like the plague. My brother founded a large off-road parts manufacturing company and CARB has cost him plenty over the years.

California sucks so bad for this...and sucks for my gun hobby as well. lol In the 20 years I've been modding cars, I've never had an issue like this when purchasing parts online or in person. I guess there's a first for everything. Moving on...

Am I the only one shocked that this thing costs ~$500? It's a freaking filter and a piece of molded pipe!
