Thanks Malek! I'm using the Delrin subframe bushing and I hope that's fine over a full aluminum bushing.

What was funny was your comment of "For now." - When are you going to let us know if its not enough or when we should switch to the delrin

So in your opinion on a mostly DD car that is driven spirited would you take either the 75A or 95A Powerflex if you have to choose for differential bushings? I notice a fair bit of wheel hop taking off in 1st if I'm too heavy with my right foot...definitely takes the fun away. Car will remain at stockish power levels and is DCT. Just hoping to have a more solid rear end feel without the need to do subframe bushings.

75D is just as stiff as delrin I believe. If Malek thinks you can stick with poly I would go with the 95A

This is definitely an issue; you could actually see the whole diff bounce at 15:31 during a lunch. I can't tell but it seems more like diff lock than wheel hop.

Unhappy I am on my 4th rear diff bolt help!

My M3 has not suffered a broken drive axle bolt yet but this rear diff bolt is getting on my nerve before my M3 was supercharged I had 2 broken rear diff bolts and one bad drive shaft axle bearing. Just 3 weeks ago after I had my super charger installed the rear diff bolt broke on the driver side for the 3rd time. I had the Stealership replace it. I asked my service rep why it keeps breaking he said its the Torque from the Supercharger really the bolt already broke 2 times prior since then. 2 days ago this past Sunday while I was in Las Vegas for MFest 7. I went to go put some gas in my car and notice the thump and rattle in the drive shaft on down shift once again the rear diff bolt has broken for the 4th time. This crap is getting old real quick. I thought I was going to be stuck in Las Vegas for a few days and not be able to drive back home to Texas. Lucky for me I had a friend with me that was a BMW mechanic and has his own shop. We drove all over Las Vegas checking car part stores all the way to Home Depo looking for a bolt like the diff. We found one like it at True Value to use for a temp. fix just to make it back home to Texas. When he replaced the broken bolt he notice my diff bushing were worn and cracked stupid Stealership should have notice this 3 weeks ago when they replace the last diff bolt. Which bushing should I use and replace on my M3? I do not track my M3 do they make stronger diff bolts than the factory aluminum one. The temp bolt on the car now is made of steel. I need some advise what I should do now to fix my diff bolt problem. My friend recommended I change out the bushing with stronger ones.

My friend also recommended I do this

and this as well

Follow Malek's advice in this thread and the car will feel so much better as an added benefit. Do the subframe bushings as well.

Looks like $600 plus a hard day's work for the Powerflex subframe and diff bushings. I put them in my E36M3 years ago, but that application was much cheaper.

So solid Al bushings for both the diff & subframe is what's being recommended? I am just worried about how rough and noisy the ride will be afterwards...

I read through the entire thread and it looks like nobody has gone solid on both, does anyone who has solid bushings on both the diff & subframe care to share their experiences?

You should have no problem with the solid aluminum subframe bushing...

The question is the diff bushing...I had solid delrin in both and it was the diff bushing that make the noise...I installed separately to test.

E93 M3

Hi Malek,

Would you recommend that E93 M3 owners should consider the upgrades too?

Does not matter if you have E90, E92 or E93 as the rear sub-frame, differential and mounts are all the same.

I will make a completely new thread on this build very soon. The whole sub-frame is being removed and re-worked, modified and reinforced. Keep an eye out for that thread in the next 3-4 weeks.

Thanks Malek.
I am sorry I had to ask, because this reminded me of the sub-frame issue with the E46 M3 and back then the E46 M3 convertibles did not need any additional sub-frame reinforcements (assuming I remember the facts correctly).

Hi Malek,

What is your take on the Powerflex bushings for the rear diff? They offer 75A and 95A durometer, which would you recommend for a mostly DD car? Do you feel 75A is a large enough benefit or would it be more useful to just do the 95A? For reference I'm speaking of a DCT car as well thats not driven too hard. I appreciate your input.

I recommend solid sub-frame bushings and 95A for the differential. 75A is not too much stiffer than the stock M bushings which are already significantly stiffer than standard BMW bushings.

AKG also sells diff and subframe mounts in both 75D and 95A. Cost is more like $410 for everything. This may be cheaper than Powerflex, if I remember correctly.

I would consider 75D for the subframe and 95A for the diff.

Just got my 2008 E92 M3 its a convertible and what I been noticing is a noise coming from the rear like the diff when I turn all the way to the left or to the right and transmission engaged like a grinding noise at any speed but more noticeable at low. I also get a hollow/slight wine noise coming from rear when at full throttle it towards higher rpms can that be diff or axles. I visually inspected the rear and looks fine. Car only has 23k on it. Any help or any body experience this?

Angry I am on my 5th rear diff bolt

I am done playing around with the diff and the rear end of this car . I just ordered the Turner Motor Sport- Race Solid Delrin Aluminum differential mounts for my diff problem . I will see how this holds up. The rep at Turner Motor Sport said I should not have to worry about the diff bolt again after I do this .
