Wait - what's that sound? ...huhh?

Bought the car 2 months ago from BMW dealership - car is certified.

I drove 1400km since the day I bought it (most of which have been done coming back home from the dealership) so it hasn't been used that much.

Had a weird sound coming from the back of the car for the past 2-3 weeks...

All 3 welds on the rear exhaust support bracket have let go. See pics...

First, I was extremely surprised has the car only has 70,000km... Did this happened to any of you?

This is where it should be...

This is a prime example of why I don't drive any of my nice cars in the winter up here. It's not even because of the snow or the icy conditions, it's the salt they dump. Quebec is one of the only provinces that continues to use salt instead of sand during the winter. There was even another member here from Quebec who's rear subframe was so rusted out from the winter salt that his diff just fell out as he was pulling away.

Nothing for you to worry about if you car is CPO. Just bring it to them and they'll replace it under warranty for you. If you end up driving your car next winter, I would suggest hosing down the wheel wells and underbody in your garage as often as you can. It won't get rid of all the salt, but it'll definitely help.

Of course I don't know if you car was winter driven. Maybe you just have a defective exhaust. Road salt will definitely speed up corrosion, though.

This is a summer car. Never been winter driven. I also plan on storing it in the winter. Building a garage as we speak...

Problem is that I'm 700km away from the dealership... so I hope I'll be able to get something done locally under warranty....

you bought the car 2 months ago and the dealer told you that it was a summer only car ? you know thats most likely not true.

This is due to the car being driven in the winter........ even though you don't intend to drive it in the winter, it obviously has been in the past!

The good news is that you should be able to pick up a OEM muffler for cheap (if the dealer don't help you out), lots of them are floating around on here in the classifieds.
