CIC Cont Help Needed

Sorry to ask but I have a early 08 E92 M3 and I have just plugged in the CIC controller that I brought from e bay and nothing seems to work? I understand re-coddling may be needed but would this not bring up a fault code?
Any advice appreciated!!
Cheers

It not really coding that it needs - It won't work with the 08 cars unless they have had a software update.

Is this something that only a dealer can do or can some of the re-coders do it!!
Sorry to ask what may seem a silly question?

Also would a update not have been automatically carried out when the car was serviced?
Again sorry of a bone question.
Cheers,
Jamie

Sometimes a good independent garage is able to do it. It's not part of your normal servicing routine, so they won't have updated it unless the owner specifically asked for it to be done.

There are other improvements I noticed when I had the software updated a few years ago - Dab radio stations change and populate the screen quicker, the car is less laggy at low revs in 3rd gear.

Guys thank you very much for the info! I may try Brystone BMW first to see if they can do it as they are VG.
It seems the Cic controller is costing more than I thought??
Still good to know that the update gives a noticeable difference in other areas!
Does this also improve the security problem with regards to the key fobes that BMW surrered from???

TBH, I would find it extremely strange if an 08 M3 had never had a software update before now!

So it's probably already got the software that would allow the newer CIC controller to work. From memory, the newer CIC controller won't work on the very early 08 cars - the important factor seemed to be if you had the numbered touch buttons 1-8 below the CD drive - if you have them, the newer controller should work.

What I suggest you do is search the specialist CIC and Audio subforums on the main M3 Post - I'm certain there's a thread all about this... in fact, I just found this thread which may explain your problem…

My car is a September 2007 build, so when the m3 first came out and it has the 1 - 8 touch buttons. Mine wouldn't have had the software updated unless I specifically asked them to and even then I had to drag my heels to get them to do it.

There is also a recall for a security fix to stop the cars getting stolen using the OBD port. If you call up a main dealer they will install that for free but as I understand it's just a patch not a full software update so it won't solve your Idrive controller problem.

as mentioned security update is just an update to the CAS module not the CCC/CIC modules etc, if you have not had the security fix, then its a perfect time to get it done and ask them since they are applying an update how much extra to do the whole car.

Mine is 58 plate and my new style CIC controller was simple plug and play. No software updated. I have 1-8 buttons on main unit. Also bear in mind if the controller works, you can't then update to the new software with it fitted. You need to plug the old controller back in to update to avoid error message when trying to update.

Jamie, I don't think you need to worry with where the car is parked.

Ben, you are right there!!

Well just had a new CIC delivered and went straight outside to plug in and still no joy what so ever!!!!! Threaders!!!!

Have decided to leave it and I have returned the dash trim today!
I had a new alcantara steering wheel fitted and with the battery disconnected it has solved the problem with my LCI lights needing coding as they now flash normally !!! One benefit I guess!

Thanks for all the info.
