[BMW M Power Mexico]

Hi,

I am looking at getting a square set of rims for track days. I am considering 4 BBS CH 18x10 rims with 275/35 18" tires all around.

I know that Turner has a set similar to this and there is also the HRE one but these would be less expensive and easier to get shipped to Mexico from the tire rack.

Do you know if this will fit right?

My E90 is stock and I am planning no other modifications except dedicated track pads, lines & fluid. I am not planning to lower the car or mod camber or suspension in any way at this time.

I did about 15 events on my E46 and just did the first one on the E90. I think the E90 handles pretty well stock but my 19" Michelin PS2s wont last more than a couple of more events and they are terribly expensive.

You'll have to run spacers. Even then, I'm not sure you'll get away with 275s in front. But someone has to try. By June, I think we'll have a pretty good idea of what fits on these cars and what doesn't.

Spacers? No .... thats not true.. The wheels are already plenty aggressive why the hell would anyone want to run a spacer?

The Bilstein car was running 18x10 ET25 BBS CH all around, with I believe 265/30/19. It was on the track tearing shit up so I believe it fits without any issues.

You might need to run a -2 camber all around but thats no big deal.

Save your money and get a set (4) of unblingy TR Motorsport 18x10 from Tire rack and put on 285-30-18 Toyo 888's. they fit fine with no rubbing.
With the extra money you save you can fly me down for a track day or 2

I would be interested to find out if they will fit with the BBK out there!
If it does and if it fits without ruibbing, it would be a nice set up.

it does stick out by about 10mm more than the TE37 18 - 9.5 set up.
I guess, with tire fitment, you won't know until you try it.

I ended up ordering TR Motorsports MT1s 18x10 from the Tire Rack. I ordered 2 and will test fit both front & rear with 275/35 tires before ordering the other two and any spacers that seem necessary. Will keep you posted.

My intention (for a track setup) is 4 18x10s w/ 275-35/18s all around.

Which tire are you going with? The RA1 does come in this size, as an alt to the 888...

I understand. You've got access to et25 wheels. I was going by the Tirerack website that stated these wheels come in et40.

I haven't decided yet. R-Compund Tire selection here in Mexico sucks big time. For track use, do R-Compund tires last longer or less than a very good high performance summer tire?

Grip is important but I might wait for R-Compunds after going through a set of street tires to get the "feel" of the car first with the new wheel setup.

My first 2 TR Motorsports MT1s 18x10s arrived today. I have to get a 275/35-18 tire to test fit them front & back or wait till my tires arrive. They look gorgeous and light.

Tires (BFGs-R) & the other 2 identical rims should be here in a bit more than a week. I ordered 5mm & 10mm spacers from Turner just in case I have fitment issues. Will let you know how everything goes in case any1 is interested in this setup for the track.

I've just order 4 RA1 275/35/R18 tires on 18x9.5 TMR Motorsports wheels. I will figure out the spacers once I get the wheeels.

Your question couldn't have been more timely! Tires arrived an hour ago. I am off to the tire shop to mount them and test fit them. I'll post later today or max tomorrow w/pics & results.

Ok, back from the fitment test:

To review, this is the setup:

4 18x10 TR Motorsports ET 25 Wheels
4 BF-Goodrich R-1 Tires (275/35-18)

Rear:

No problems at all (of course). However, I think I will run the 10mm spacers there b/c the car looks a lot better better with them and also to dial in back a bit of understeer and keep the track offsets closer to stock..

Front:

I tried no spacers, 5 mm spacers & 10 mm spacers. At full lock the tires *do rub* a bit on the wheel wells all cases, particularly on the right side. For some reason, the front right side wheel well has a small bump on the back that isn't there on the left side. At full lock they also touch the front of the wheel well but the problem is more pronounced on the rear of the tire.

I am a bit worried about the rubbing, but still:

1. Rubbing starts at greater locks than anything I apply on the track I go to.
2. Since the worse rubbing is on the rear of the well, my thinking is the car will be leaning to the other side when turning hard so clearance will be a bit higher.
3. I think that running a greater offset with this size wheel is impossible since the wheels barely clear the front struts without spacers with this offset.

It seems that 265/35 18s wouldn't rub at all as the rubbing is minimal with the 275s.

I am not sure if the spacers help or hinder the problem. I think I am going to go without spacers in front to minimize the risk of fender rubbing up top and with the 10mms in the back.

For a definitive answer on this setup you'll have to wait until I get back from the track on Saturday!

Now, how dangerous (if at all) is it to have this level of slight rubbing on the inside of the wheel wells?

Thanks for the update.. Please let me know after Saturday's run on the track! My question I would ask is if you could do it again would you buy the 275's again or go to the 265's?

Thanks. That was very good. One thing to be aware of. I'm running stock rears in the front. I also rub on the right side more than the left. I've actually worn through the inner fender liner in the spot you identified, but my tires are taller. Behind the liner is a weld seam. This seam can cut your tire down if you rub on it hard. Check on the liner and tire condition frequently to verify you do not have a serious rub.
