How good is the OEM shift knob?

Hi guys,

how are you liking the OEM 6MT shift knob? Anyone compared it to the performance shift knob (the silver one that is just a stub)? What is your knob of choice? I have heard many people seem to like the ZHP knob...

I am considering the OEM M3 one for my 335i, because I like the fact that it is quite tall and has a nice shape to it for my hand...

Thanks

I have the ZHP and it's definitely better IMO. Stocker is not bad, but weighs nothing, therefore it feels like crap while shifting. Seems like it's going to break. And a bit tall IMO. ZHP is perfect, and pretty cheap ($65 shipped, I think). Without the difficult lighting conversion I did, it should be a 1-minute swap for you. The only nicer thing about our OEM is the shift pattern top, but I transferred mine to the ZHP, as noted above. Good luck.

dont get the m3 shift knob for your 335... go for mtech shift knob or a performance shift knob or get a solid and heavy UUC shift knob (what i have).

with the RE-SSK it does add a bit more weight to the shift feel but in stock form there's room for improvement

It's nothing special. I like how it lights up, but it doesn't feel substantial. I'm thinking of switching to the zhp knob myself.

ZHP knob FTW! 10x better than the OEM.

Does the ZHP knob feel too short?

Yep, looks and feels perfect. The above one doesn't look quite right since the 'ring' is larger, but if you take the time to fold the boot exactly at the same diameter than the ring, it looks OEM. Plus I transferred the lighting from the stocker, so looks like it came with the car. As you can see from the bottom perspective, it doesn't look short at all; still has plenty of leverage, and due to it being weighted, feels even smoother. You can shift gears with 2 fingers and basically no effort, so don't worry about that.

I tried the ZHP knob, but I went back to the stock shift knob.

I guess I'm just too darn used to the stock feel.

I think it's perfect once you get used to it.
