Two words: "throttle response"
Whenever I drive my friends 135i I am always left wondering if the car is going to accelerate after pressing the pedal for a second or two. Best part of the M3 is the immediacy. You will see. |

I currently have a 2011 335XI with just about every single mod you can get for it, and i ordered a brand new M3 on Friday. I know technically my tuned N55 has more torque and is faster than a stock M3, but i think it was worth it. I just love the interior and exterior styling of the M. The handling and suspension on the M3 is far superior to that of my 335XI with KW v3 coils. My car currently makes over 400 HP and 400 TQ but i felt it was worth it to trade for that awesome V8. Plus i miss RWD.. i like the sporty feel of the M3 which you dont get in a standard 3 series.
Another large factor for me was all the current incentives. I have been eyeing M3's for a long time know and with these incentives, its in my price range. Was thinking to wait for the next one but they will be too much again at over 1k a month.. at least the way i like em. So my advice is do it and dont regret it. You can also alwas supercharge it if you need more power. |

The proper comparison for a 335 vs m3 is either a 335 with $14-15k in your pocket (if you buy used and get a great deal on both) or a 335 with $15k in mods on it vs a stock M3.
Since both cars are manufactured by the same company and are (mostly) the same parts minus the engine and some swappable suspension bits, the primary comparison is the engine and the bodywork which is very expensive to swap to the 335. If you greatly prefer the N/A engine feel, the M3 is obviously going to be the car you want. But once you talk about supercharging the M3 you're $25k-30k more than a 335 would cost, so you've got to factor that in. There's always an argument to be made about "buy a cheaper car and mod it" and that can be taken to extremes like why not buy a '92 mustang and mod that, obviously it will be cheaper and faster with the same money. But since the 335 and M3 are so close to the same the comparison is a lot more direct. I can testify that the N54 reliability is suspect with the fuel pump and injector issues though, that is a pain in the rear. If the turbos go there are upgrades which are far more durable. In the end we're all a big BMW family. |

I just made this jump.. yesterday, actually..
I don't regret it.. the question is what to do with the 335 for the 2 months I have left on the lease.. Even my dog is confused...

i've had 3 335's and never moved on an m3 b/c of north east weather. I finally pulled the trigger and it truly is night and day. Go for it!

M3 is nothing like the 335, better in every respect except for gas mileage (especially range, it really needs a bigger tank). |

Update..... the 335 is now gone and there is an M3 in my garage.
Ended up with space gray on black, pretty much loaded with DCT. Picked it up last night and loving it so far. It does look like the 335, but it is truly a completely different animal. It drives and handles so much better than the 335 did. Can't wait till the break in period is over so i can stop driving like a grandmaw. |

well he already pulled the trigger, but i did the same... went from 328 to 335 to M3... right now i'm in a F10 535 Msport and a F30 335 Msport (but 6MT) and there isn't a day that goes by that i don't miss the M3... well, except the fuel pump, i'm not there every 48 hours...
just the tightness, the response, the build quality, the sound and the smile i used to get when i hit the start/stop button... i just keep telling myself, this is a stop gap until the M4 comes out... that is all... |
