Matte Black Badge

Hey guys,

So I ordered the Matte Black badge from IND, I love the way the badge itself looks but the 3M tape that came on it was much to thick. It made the badge stick way to far off the car. Also since my car is Jerez Black and the badge is black the white 3M tape stuck out like a sore thumb. I informed Nate at IND about my dislike of the tape and without question he shipped me a new OEM badge painted black, however I have not installed it because I like the non painted matte black badge better. I tried getting a thinner tape but cutting it just right for the emblem was a pain and after I stuck it back on the tape still isn't thin enough to my liking, doesn't look OEM. Has anyone else had this problem with their black badges? If so were you successful in correcting it? I am tempted to just remove the badge all together, or order a new OEM chrome one, but they are stupid expensive. Looking forward to hearing y'alls thoughts and stories.

Thanks

The MFest guys custom paint OEM badges. They are $80, not cheap, but look good.

I have the exact problem. I have the IND matte black badge and after installing it, it sticks out pretty far and you can easily see the thick white tape. I was hoping over time the white would lose some of its "luster" as not to contrast so heavily with the paint, but am having no luck. After reading this thread, it makes me want to fix this problem for good! I definitely like the look of the black badge over the chrome, so I think the only way to fix would be to find/ cut the tape very meticulously to make it thinner as not to protrude so far and be as noticeable, but I guess you have tried that method...

I know there is a thinner tape out there it is just a matter of time before I find it. I will post what I find that makes me happy when I find it.

I have the "shadow" M3 badge from JLevistreetworks and it comes with the thin black 3M tape. It looks exactly like the OEM emblem but in black. You can order it in glossy or flat.

I bought the glossy finish with the thought that it would go better with the other black trim on the car.

The url is: http://www.jlevistreetwerks.com/p735...duct_info.html

Here's a pic:

I got some of this, it was dark grey and still not as flush as OEM, I may keep looking or just leave it. I already have 50 bucks involved in this simple badge swap. This is getting crazy!

I purchased this on ebay for 10 bucks. It was perfect:

I opted for the matte black mono badge. There are many other options.

No way would I spend 50 bucks on an emblem. That is just plain obsessive.

+1, that is the solution I used some time ago. The thick white stuff just doesn't cut it.

Why don't you post the price here. As I mentioned, I purchased a perfect M3 badge from the link above on ebay for 10 bucks. It was perfect, including the tape. I have no affiliation with the seller. There are others on ebay that sell the same item. Just saying that if your paying close to 50 bucks for an M3 emblem, you are crazy. There is no difference in quality and as a matter of fact, I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same exact item as IND.

$42 shipped to NJ...and to be honest it is kinda cheesy the emblem. But whatever it was forty bucks so I'm not sweatin it. The only reason I am replacing the stock badge is because it's crooked and the colors on the /// is all faded and looks like shit.

By the way it came with very thin black tape pre mounted to the back of the emblem.
