AW M3 E90 Project

Greetings everyone,

new here on this forum but not new on bimmerpost. Been a huge BMW fan since mid 2000 (e60, e61, x71, e90, f10, f11), but have now switched to a Panamera for my daily, though my wife is on her 3rd BMW, currently a G31 520xd.

Just before the lockdown in 2019, I treated myself to a 3rd car, which was a Z4 E86 3.0si. I barely drove with the car, but the very little I drove was with a big smile. Thinking that the z4 was going to be a keeper, I decided to upgrade to a Z4 M (for no regrets in future). That Z4 M was then upgraded to another Z4 M that was generally in a much better state, with less mileage (80.000km) and lots of other goodies (KWv3, valve controlled exhaust, eventuri, ac schnitzer diffusor). All 3 Z4s were white (like both our dailys), and with no sat-nav.

Last year, I came across a beautiful 1M E82 with only 9000km. The 10 year factory warranty is only running out this year in summer. The fact that it was white and without sat-nav just meant that I had to get it. So that was added to my little collection.

Coming into this year, I realized that the Z4M was not very practical. When I had time during the weekend, I was with my wifey and son so taking the Z4M was never an option. This is when my new search started - a E90, white, manual, w/o sat-nav... What is like an easy search on the other side of the pond was something very tricky here in Europe. Barely an handful of cars are in the market (as we speak there are 4 advertised) and if, it meant flying across Europe which I also did. At the end, I had to compromise and bought a white e90 with DCT, 116000km, cloth/leather trim, white and without sat-nav. Delivery is hopefully in a week. Pics are from the previous owner.

Technically the car is in great shape (just brakes need doing), optically it could do with some love. The previous owner was everything but stingy and treated the car with the following upgrades:

- Öhlins Road & Track
- Millway Camberplates
- EDC Cancellation kit
- ACL Race rod bearings
- ARP Rod bolts
- Style 359M wheels
- Apex Wheelstuds
- H&R Spacers
- Pagid RS29 brakepads
- Goodridge brakelines
- Castrol SRF
- Alignment & Corner balance

I have now ordered new brakes, new steering wheel, new front seats (recaro sportster in cloth/leather) and some other goodies. Will keep you posted in this this thread.

cheers guys..

Congrats on the e90. Looks like a good base to start with.

Looking forward to hear how you like the m3 compared to the 1m.

How did you take out the rear door tiny windows?

Did you have to break the glass? I heard they're glued in.

Have you any pictures of the seat belt mounted to the seat?

I just got my AMX Recaros and I'm not keen on the position. Prefer not to have the belt rubbing on the seat. Neither keen on the OEM metal piece on the end of the seat belt.

I could go custom and get new belts with a different metal piece.

Be great to see how fellow E90 owners have tackled this issue!
