Let's talk about guns

Ok, I'm in college and am, cough, 19 years old. I'm living in an apartment by myself next year, and I think that I would like to have a handgun for not only personal protection purposed but for sport as well. I've read Missouri and Arizona gun laws, and I'm in the green, however I don't think I'm allowed to carry it around in my glovebox until the age of 21

I'd like to not spend that much money because again, I'm a broke ass college student. I've not been around guns that much in my life, despite my grandfather being an avid hunter and rural nature/conservation/shooting all kinds of animals enthusiast. I've shot rifles before and killed deer, but never been that into guns. What's a good starter pistol?

I prefer Glocks for starting guns, they pretty much never stop running.

Honestly, for the low price of a Glock, I'd just buy it new.

The most absolutely important thing you can possibly do is get self defense instruction from a competent instructor...it could save your life and the lives of others.

For the home? Shotgun all the way. Less risk of over penetration, extremely effective, in theory easier to hit a target ehen under extreme stress.

To carry? Given your trepidation I'd think twice about carrying if I were you. Or at least not carry until after having taken some in depth classes. Carrying is a huge responsibility and is not without serious risk.

If you want home protection, get a shotgun. If you want a handgun to take to the range that could serve as a backup home protection weapon, a glock would be a good first choice.

Anyone who had the sense to realize that the explosion would kill you both, not to mention the backblast.

If you want a cheap plastic gun that shoots real bullets, get a Glock. If you want a well crafted gun that is accurate enough to shoot the wings off a fly whilst leaving the rest of the poor bastard intact, then get a Sig Sauer.

I was blessed with a good memory, and the good sense to shut the fuck up and listen when I'm unfamiliar with the subject matter. There's a metric shit ton of things I don't know.

A cheap plastic gun that never jams, is easy to maintain, and accurate enough to do the job.

People will tend to say "glock" right off the bat without considering fit. Glocks are notorious for being uncomfortable in the hand, DEPENDING on who you are. They give a lot of people trouble. You need to take that into account, I'd recommend shooting one before buying if you can.

Pretentiousness aside, if you read the OP again, you'll see that he says that he doesn't have much money.

I'd get an XD or a Glock as a beginner gun for a broke ass college student

Personally, I only carry custom 1911s.
